K-State's Cats for Cans Food Drive Scores Big

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State student-athletes set an all-time record for donations during the Wildcats’ 10th-annual Cats for Cans food drive prior to K-State’s 2005 homecoming game vs. Colorado on Oct. 29.

Pushing grocery carts and toting money buckets through the parking lot of KSU Stadium prior to the game, Kansas State student-athletes collected 3,666 pounds of canned food and monetary donations totaling $5,308.

A foundation, which wished to remain anonymous, agreed to match the generous donations of K-State fans on a dollar-for-dollar basis, helping push the monetary donation total to $10,616.

All proceeds from the event go to benefit the Flint Hills Breadbasket. The Flint Hills Breadbasket assists in providing meals for over 1,000 families throughout Manhattan and the surrounding area.

Cats for Cans is just one of the many community service projects that allow Kansas State student-athletes to give back to their community in a positive and influential way.
