MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State men's basketball team ended its exhibition slate with a 79-75 win over in-state school Emporia State.

Junior Cartier Martin led all scorers with 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. He also added 10 rebounds and six assists to his line. Also in double figures for the Wildcats was junior Mario Taybron and sophomore Clent Stewart, who added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Leading the way for the Hornets was senior Ryan Blevins with 16 points and four rebounds. Right behind Blevins was senior Tyrell Sledge with 15 points, also adding six rebounds and six assists. Wes Book and Shawn Herrman also were in double figures for Emporia State, scoring 13 and 12, respectively.

The Hornets jumped out to a quick 10-0 led connecting on back-to-back three pointers by Book. K-State then went on a 24-4 run of their own, taking a 24-14 advantage with 10:43 remaining in the first half. The two teams went to the locker room with Kansas State holding an 11-point lead at 42-31.

The Wildcats came out of halftime to stretch their lead to 17 at 57-40 with 13:55 remaining. During that stretch, Martin scored 11 of the team's first 15 points of the half. From there, Emporia State went on a 21-5 run to cut K-State's advantage to one with 6:27 remaining. The two teams went back and forth until Martin's jumper with 40 seconds remaining ignited a 5-2 spurt to end the game.

Kansas State officially opens the 2005-06 season on Friday, Nov. 18, against Georgia Southern at Bramlage Coliseum beginning at 7 p.m.
