Tim Weiser Quotes from Press Conference

Athletic Director Tim Weiser
On a timetable to find a successor...
“Well what I’ve said for this week, we won’t be having any comments about candidates or processes. This is a week to celebrate Coach Snyder and what he’s accomplished. With senior day being Saturday, the focus needs to be on this game coming up. So I’m not going to have any comments until after the season about where we are going to go and how we proceed with it. I will say, to Sharon and the family, we appreciate very much you sharing your husband and your father with us. He has been somebody that I hate to think where K-State would be without what he’s provided for us.”
On Coach Snyder’s decision...
“Coach seemed very comfortable that this was the right thing to do, and because of that, it made me feel a little better. But still, knowing that this is the end of an era, and Coach will no longer be on the sidelines after Saturday, it’s kind of a hard thing to think about K-State football without Coach Snyder.”
On if football overshadowed the athletic department at times...
“I wish I had relationships with all my coaches like I did with Bill. Not only was he a good personal friend to me, but Bill had unique qualities of, even though he cared deeply about life and football, he had the ability to step back and look at the big picture and to be able to see where football fit into, not just the athletic department, but the university. It’s not often that you find a coach that has the ability to do that. I think because of what Bill had been through and because of what I think he was able to view firsthand in terms of the growth of this university, because in large part of the success of football, it allowed him to see things in a little bit different way than most coaches.”
On the importance of Coach Snyder’s successor having K-State ties...
“I want the best guy possible. I believe Coach Snyder is in a position to tell us what is going to be best for us. At the end of the day, I’ll make the decision and not put that on Coach Snyder. It would be foolish for us to make any decision without giving him an opportunity to share his thoughts about it. Jon (Wefald), Bob (Krause), and I will collect the information and, when it comes time to make that decision, we’re going to hire the best person. Whether or not that’s a K-Stater remains to be seen.”
On when he found out about Coach Snyder’s decision...
“Well we talked Sunday a couple of times. Then, of course, yesterday we talked in the morning and then a couple of times in the afternoon. Last night before he went to meet with the players, we talked one last time about it. I think that conversation was just more of the logistics of how best to deliver this decision to his players and his coaches, and of course to the media. We felt like last night was the best way to do that.”
On the type of person he wants to replace Coach Snyder...
“Well I’m going to be a little bit selfish here, because I think if you step back and look at Coach Snyder, when he came here, I don’t think you could say he was rich with K-State history. But obviously, he still managed to achieve great things. I think the point there is, all things being equal, somebody that’s familiar with K-State is certainly in an advantageous position. I don’t think that can be the bottom line for us. I think there has to be other things that factor into our decision. In time, we’ll see fit to identify that person, but for the rest of this week, it’s going to be talk about Coach.”
