Head Coach Gary Pinkel
On K-State head coach Bill Snyder...
“First, I want to congratulate coach Bill Snyder. It was disappointing for me because I wanted to beat him the last chance I could. (Snyder) is what is right about college football. We are better off in college football because of his career. He has great character and is a first class man. We’ll miss him.”
On the game...
“Obviously I’m disappointed. We just made mistakes. The outcome had nothing to do with effort. We had great effort out there. The mistakes are staggering. When you go on the road, you can’t make mistakes like we did. We have got to overcome that in this program. The turnovers, the kicking game, and the penalties hurt us, but we have got to overcome that to be successful. We know that you can’t win when you give someone 16 points.”
On correcting mistakes...
“We’ve just got to keep working hard. That’s what we always do. We have always been a great turnover team. This year, though, we’ve made a lot of mistakes. It really is a staggering number. We’ll continue to work on that. There’s no magic here, but we’ll try to do the job and get that corrected.”
On quarterback Brad Smith’s fourth quarter interception...
“He was probably just trying to get rid of the football, and he got hit again. That’s just a judgment thing, but Brad did some good things for us today.”
On K-State’s fourth quarter, fourth down touchdown to Jordy Nelson...
“(K-State) just went for it. Obviously they felt confident with the play call and it worked out for them. It was just like when I did the same thing in the first half with five seconds left. We had our opportunities late and couldn’t take advantage of them.”
On fourth quarter mistakes and developments...
“I think you just go on. If you critique everything when it happens, then it’s tough to stay focused on what needs to be done. We had our chances late. How you handle that is you come back with drives. Brad had nice drives going and we had two timeouts left. I believe that we had about 1:20 left to go and had the wind at our backs. With our kicker, we could have got to the 33 or 34 yard line and have a great shot at a game-winning kick. Obviously, we couldn’t get that done.”
