On the second half...
“If you look at our team in the first half, we’ve got five turnovers at halftime. We can play if we don’t turn the ball over. We can play. We’ve got good post players. We can make threes. And, I thought we defended real well in the first half and you’ve got a two-point game. I came in, and we were kind of upset we weren’t up six-or-eight. You sit there and tell them that, guess what, you know how hard these girls are getting ready to play when they come out of the lockerroom. I thought their (Kansas State) level of intensity and how hard they played was another level that we had never seen. Claire (Coggins) made shots and big plays. We don’t have anybody that can guard her. Their inside players battled. When they play that hard, and Claire is making shots, they’re going to be tough to beat.”
On if he can take anything out of how they played in the first half...
“There’s no question. If you notice when the second half started, those turnovers turned into easy shots for them. They are out there running the lanes and (being) athletic, and when you turn it over, and our players know that, it’s not the fact that we didn’t get a shot off, it’s that they’re going to get an easy shot.”
On the young
“Those kids are going to get better and better. I thought they got better as the game went on. They play hard. They’re smart. (Marlies) Gipson can get separated and shoot over the top of you, or she can go by you from the high post. She’s hard to guard. We don’t have anybody that can guard her. (JoAnn) Hamlin looks to me like what Ohlde was like. She’s bouncy, 6-foot-3 that she can shoot turnaround jumpers. They have good players.”
On how excited he is from what his team showed today...
“We’re real excited. I think our post play is decent. I think we have a little bit of speed with Jowan (Ortega) and Sammi (Knapic). And then you put Brittny (Picconi) into the mix, that can shoot it and get to the basket. Brittny’s skilled and strong, and she’ll give us another player out there.”
