Head Coach Clifford Reed, Jr.
On having the lead at the half...
“We were playing extremely well in the first half. We were executing and defending. Our multiple defenses confused them a bit. They made an adjustment and then we changed defenses again. Even though they shot well, we were able to get them out where they wanted to be. They turned the ball over a little bit more than we did in the first half.”
On what he told his team at the half...
“The main thing at the halftime was that when you are in this situation when you are playing against teams that are going to come out and play like Mike Tyson in the second half, they are going to come out really strong. You have to be able to match their intensity, and then you have to be able to, by matching their intensity, you have to be able to execute. I told them that was the beauty of it. We have been in that situation before against
On Antonio Webb...
“He kept us in the ballgame. He played really well; he shot the ball really well. He is capable of doing that against anybody. I watched him against a lot of higher level teams, and he really has the ability to score the basketball. We need him to play well in order for us to have an opportunity. You can’t beat this level of competition, not even in our league, with only two guys in double digits. We just have to get more guys involved and our level I hope we will.”
Senior guard Antonio Webb
On getting open against
“It wasn’t easy. They were bigger than me, so I wanted to beat them with my quickness. My team did a really good job of setting screens. I hit a lot of tough shots. Every time I shot the ball I think I had a hand in my face. I came in early and had a lot of shots. If my team set a screen, I had to come out and be ready to shoot.”
On the second half...
“In the second half they picked up on us and they were a lot more aggressive than we were. We knew they were going to push up, and I don’t think we were able to respond as well in the second half.”
On the technical at the beginning of the game...
“It was a motivation for us. I told the team that if Coach is going to be aggressive like that, we have to come out and be aggressive.”
