| SOPHOMORE DEFENSIVE BACK BRYAN BALDWIN On his initial reaction towards Ron Prince... “He seems like a nice guy. He is willing to have good relationships with his players, and that is very important for us as players to be around coaches who want to be around us and be people that we learn from. With the coaches that just left, a lot of those coaches were player coaches. I think that is good that that is one of his main focus points.” On the feeling in the lockerroom... “At first we were more nervous because we didn’t know who it was going to be at all. Now after hearing what he had to say and his game plan, I think it is a lot calmer than it was at first. I knew it was going to be someone that was good, so I wasn’t too worried. I was just waiting for it to be announced. I don’t know too much about him, but from what he said today in our meeting I think everything is pretty good and I would love to play for him.” SOPHOMORE DEFENSIVE BACK MARCUS WATTS On when he first heard the news... “I heard from the media. They wanted us to find out before then, but it is impossible to keep things from the media. It wasn’t official until we found out today at 2:30 p.m.” On comparing Coach Prince to Coach Snyder... “I don’t think that’s a fair thing (to compare Ron Prince to Bill Snyder). We haven’t got to really sit down and communicate with him. We had a short 30-35 minute meeting with him. He just instilled some things that he expects out of us. That is all that I can really say right now. I don’t know him as a person-person yet. I am ready to get to know him as a person. It is going to take a couple months to do that, so I wouldn’t speculate on comparing him to Coach Snyder at all right now.” FRESHMAN QUARTERBACK ALLAN EVRIDGE On his impression of Ron Prince... “I was very impressed. I was impressed with his demeanor and the way that he handled things, his plans, his structure and the way he goes about things. I have nothing bad to say. I am looking forward to the future. I believe he is going out for recruiting and stuff in the next couple of days. Whenever he gets back in, I plan on getting in and getting started on some offensive schemes. On his thoughts throughout the coach search... “It’s been kind of interesting. I tried to not get involved in (everything the media said) and worry about who the names were. In the end it ultimately didn’t matter because I knew they would do a good job of hiring the right person and I had no say in it. I knew we were going to bring in a great fit.” JUNIOR RUNNING BACK THOMAS CLAYTON On his first impression... “I was impressed. He was definitely nothing short of what I expected. Obviously, when he is going to come in here and be our head coach, I expected someone intelligent, and (Ron Prince) was. He definitely had everyone’s attention when he spoke. It was absolutely silent. All of us were interested in what he was saying.” SOPHOMORE WIDE RECEIVER JORDY NELSON On the coaching change... “This is the first coaching change I’ve been through. (The team) hasn’t had much to do with it. We’ve just been sitting back and seeing what Tim Weiser and the rest of the administration would do. All we’ve been doing is working out and going through our daily routine.” On being kept in the loop about the hiring of a coach... “We hadn’t really been told anything. Mainly what we’ve been told or have read is what the media writes. That’s about it. I think with Thanksgiving break being thrown in there, it was hard to keep the team informed on everything. With everyone preparing for finals coming up, we haven’t really had a time for everyone to get together as a team until now. We found out today who our coach would be, and I think he’ll do a great job.” On his initial impression of Coach Prince... “I think he’s going to be a great coach. When he addressed us, he already had a plan of things to do. He didn’t go into too much detail. He said we would have meetings later on. I think he has great ideas to start a foundation under his leadership. It’s a new program in a sort of way, being under a new coach. He knows what the program is all about, and I think he knows what he is going to do.” REDSHIRT FRESHMAN TIGHT END BRETT ALSTATT On his first impressions of Coach Prince... “He impressed us. I think work ethic comes to mind the most. Everything that he talked to us about seemed to represent K-State well. I think that he’ll do a great job for us. Some of the values and the way he wants to proceed forward seem great. He has a lot of energy, and I think that the change of scenery will be good for us.” On Coach Prince’s message to the team... “I won’t go into it too much; I think that should stay between the team and him. He basically made the point that he was the coach, and was here to fill that position. I think he made it out exactly how he should have. He’s not about it being his team or anything. He said we were a group, and not just the football team. He mentioned the equipment guys, the managers, and the maintenance guys. It’s not a team, it’s an organization.” JUNIOR OFFENSIVE LINEMAN GREG WAFFORD On Ron Prince having the background of being an offensive line coach... “Hopefully he’ll be working with (the lineman). He’ll be one-on-one with us and always keeping an eye on us for sure.” On his initial impressions of Coach Prince... “He seems like a nice guy and will be a good coach for us. He seemed like he’ll have good interaction with us, and is ready to win.” |
