HEAD COACH BARRY COLLIER
On K-State’s preparedness...
“K-State played really hard and with a level of intensity that works out favorably for a team that plays like that. We have to credit them for the difference on the boards. They had a great edge today.”
On what needs to happen from here on out...
“We have to each take personal responsibility to try to get back to playing with that sense of urgency. I need to coach that way. Jim (Wooldridge) did a great job today. I was clearly out-coached today. We need to be better prepared from the intensity standpoint. We attacked early and that led to some early turnovers, but there is no excuse for the lack of rebounding we had.”
On the second half...
“We won the first four-minute segment of the second half to cut the lead to five. We were getting decent shots. Early on, we shot the three too much. In the second half, we got better shots and got the ball inside some. Being in foul trouble was a continual problem. I think their rebounding advantage was the singe biggest thing in the game.”
On Jeremiah Massey in the second half...
“He got the ball deeper and more often in the post. He is tough to guard in there. He did have a pretty good first half. He had a good percentage of their points.”
On whether this game’s mental lapse will continue...
“This is just a one-game thing. I don’t see a dramatic difference between four games ago and those three wins. We played with a sense of urgency in those games. Rebounding is a big concern and we let them into the paint too many times.”
On Charles Richardson...
“He is playing great basketball of late. He is a pass-first guy, more so than any other player on our team. He offensive numbers show more from assists than scoring or free throws. He is trying very hard to do what he can. Collectively, that is not enough for our team.”
SENIOR FORWARD JOHN TUREK
On K-State’s intensity....
“They came out with more intensity and wanted it more. They got a couple quick buckets and went after loose balls. They made the hustle plays. We just lacked the mental toughness and didn’t have enough intensity,”
On Jeremiah Massey...
“He did a great job attacking the hoop. Before our defense could even get set, he’d make a quick move and lean in.”
On the locker room after the game...
“Coach was just making sure the players were keeping their heads up and staying focused on what we can do better. We need to take the good things from today and use them to get ready for the tournament.”
FRESHMAN CENTER ALEKS MARIC
On K-State’s intensity...
“Their team played hard. Each team has a mission to take each other out of their game and they did that to us.”
On Justin Williams...
“He was coming off a good game against
On K-State’s motivation for the game...
“They have played a lot of close games and lost some at the buzzer or in the last few seconds. They wanted to establish themselves as a team who doesn’t let someone come in and take over on their home court.”
