Four Former Wildcats headed to NFL Europe

MANHATTAN, Kan. -  Four former Kansas State football players have been assigned to three NFL Europe teams, according to nfleurope.com. All four are making their professional debut as the league begins play April 2.

 

The No. 2 all-time K-State unassisted tackler (247), Josh Buhl, whose rights are owned by Baltimore was assigned to the Berlin Thunder by the Ravens. Buhl is K-State’s all-time single-season unassisted tackles leader, as he recorded 184 tackles during his senior campain in 2003. Heralded as a first-team All-American by the Sporting News, Buhl also received second-team All-American honors by the Associated Press, Sports Illustrated and College Football News and was first team All-Big 12 in 2003. The Mesquite, Texas, native was the Big 12 leading tackler with 12.2 per game his senior year.

 

Joe Hall, a second team All-Big 12 selection his junior year (1999), will play for the Rhein Fire this spring. The hefty fullback was K-State’s leading rusher with 613 yards in 1999 and the fourth-leading rusher in 2001 with 251 yards. His senior season, Hall was the nation’s heaviest Division I running back at 290 pounds, yet rushed for 100 yards in three consecutive games. Drafted by Kansas City, Hall is a Lynwood, Calif., native.

 

Joining Hall on the Rhein Fire’s roster is former defensive tackle Justin Montgomery. The 2003 second team All-Big 12 coaches’ selection started all 14 games of his senior campaign and recorded 67 tackles on the year, including six sacks. Montgomery broke up nine passes, including two in the Big 12 Championship game vs. Oklahoma. The Smith Center, Kan., native had a career-high 10 tackles in the Wildcats’ loss to Marshall.

 

Assigned by Pittsbugh to the roster for the Hamburg Sea Devils, former Wildcat fullback Travis Wilson was an honorable mention All-Big 12 coaches’ selection in 2003. He started 11 games for K-State in 2003 and averaged 13.6 yards on seven receptions in his career. Wilson turned in a career-high 36 yards on two receptions vs. Massachusetts.
