MANHATTAN, Kan. If playing in a BCS (previously termed "Alliance") bowl is considered making to the "big time" in college football, then Kansas State officially claimed its place among the premiere football programs in the country with the fans’ No. 3 pick in Powercat Passport’s Countdown to Kickoff 2005 K-State’s resounding 38-18 victory Syracuse in the 1997 Fiesta Bowl.
Syracuse quarterback Donovan McNabb would go on to play in the Super Bowl, but on that night, in front of a purple-clad sea of an estimated 50,000 Wildcat fans, it was Kansas State quarterback Michael Bishop who looked like the future Pro Bowler.
Bishop completed 14 passes for a then career-high of 317 yards with four touchdown passes. Darnell McDonald was on the receiving end of seven Bishop darts, turning them into a school record 206 yards in receptions, including TDs of 77 and 41 yards.
With Saturday’s 1 p.m. webcast of Kansas State’s first ever BCS/Alliance bowl victory, Powercat Passport’s Countdown to Kickoff 2005 moves within a game of revealing the fans’ choice as the most popular game of the Bill Snyder era.
The fans' pick as the No. 1 game will be webcast on August 27th, one week before the Wildcats kickoff their 2005 season vs. Florida International.
In conjunction with the Top 10 countdown, a one-year subscription discount of $10 is being offered on Powercat Passport, which provides hundreds of hours of video from Wildcat coaches' shows as well as game-day features, to season highlights, exclusive interviews with players and coaches and classic games like the Fan's Top 10.
