Freeman Garners Honor from MCS

MANHATTAN, Kan. The honors continue to roll in for freshman quarterback Josh Freeman as he was given the “MCS Nike Game Ball” and was named the Offensive Player of the Week after his performance in K-State’s 45-42 win over No. 4 Texas last week, the Master Coaches Survey announced.

Freeman completed 19-of-31 passes for 269 yards and a career-high three touchdowns Saturday while also running for another score. The 6-foot-6 quarterback completed six passes for over 20 yards in the game, with all three touchdowns going for 30-plus yards, and also completed passes to nine different receivers.

The Kansas City, Mo., native set a new Kansas State freshman passing mark for a season Saturday and now has 1,407 yards on the year. In his last three games, all conference wins, Freeman is 55-of-77 for 681 yards and six touchdowns.

Each week during the 2006 college football season, the 17 Master Football Coaches award an MCS Nike Game Ball to the respective schools for an offensive, defensive and special teams player of the week. The Master Coaches also present a game ball to the offensive and defensive coordinator whose game plans made the biggest impact in their respective teams' victory.

In addition to Freeman, the Master Football Coaches also awarded MCS Nike Game Balls to Georgia safety Tra Battle, Florida defensive end/special teamer Jarvis Moss, Wake Forest offensive coordinator Steed Lobotzke and Arkansas defensive coordinator Reggie Herring.

The Master Coaches Survey, an advisory poll comprised of 17 former college football coaches, includes 11 College Football Hall of Fame Members and represents five national championships and over 3,000 victories combined. Based on the MCS system, the voters review all of the relevant game tapes following each week of competition, discuss each teams’ performance during a weekly conference call, then establish a ranking of the Top 25 teams. The MCS Top 25 can be found on the MCS website (www.mcspoll.com), including a breakdown of how the coaches voted.

Freeman was named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and was nominated for the Cingular All-America Player of the Week earlier this week.
