K-State Breezes Past Owls

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Bill Walker, the most highly sought freshman ever to play for Kansas State, scored 15 points in an eagerly anticipated, crowd-pleasing debut Sunday and the Wildcats swamped Kennesaw State 82-54.
The 6-6 Walker, who once had 50 points and 25 rebounds in an Ohio high school game, became eligible on Saturday, an event that occasioned a special news conference at a school where excitement has already surged with the arrival of Bob Huggins as head coach.
The Wildcats (7-3) had no trouble with the Owls (2-7), racing to a 55-19 halftime lead and never leading in the second half by fewer than 28 points.
David Hoskins had 17 points for Kansas State and Cartier Martin had 12.
The Owls, NCAA Division II champions in 2003-04 but struggling in their second season in Division I, missed 12 of their first 13 shots. Ronell Wooten hit a 3-pointer with 17:23 left in the first half, and then Kennesaw State went almost 10 minutes without another field goal until Zach Berry's midcourt steal and driving layup.
By then, the Wildcats held a 34-7 bulge en route to their third win in a row.
Wooten had nine points for Kennesaw State and Brent Ragsdale and Andre Morgan each had eight.
Walker, who led Cincinnati's North College Hill High School to two Ohio State championships, also had four rebounds and an assist before going to the bench late in the game with four fouls.
