K-State falls to Baylor, 17-3

WACO, TEXAS Kansas State won the battle of the stat sheet but was unable to turn yards into points as the Wildcats dropped a 17-3 decision at Baylor to open Big 12 play Saturday night at Floyd Casey Stadium.
Josh Freeman threw for 196 yards in relief of starter Dylan Meier, including a 68-yard pass to Yamon Figurs and a 55-yard hook-up with Jermaine Moriera, but five turnovers, including three in the red zone helped keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard.
Baylor, meanwhile, used three big plays to generate all of its points as the Bears held on for just their second win of the season.
Kansas State looked like it was going to draw first blood midway through the first quater as the Wildcats marched from their own 16-yard line to the Baylor 14. But Alton Widemon pounced on a Thomas Clayton fumble on third down and the Cats came away empty handed.
Just five plays later, Baylor got all the points they would need as Shanw Bell connected with Trent Shelton on a 75-yard touchdown pass for an early 7-0 Bear lead.
Jeff Snodgrass would get Kansas State on the board with a 41-yard field goal just before half to make it 7-3 at the break.
A 47-yard punt return Quieto Teasley on the Bears first possession of the second half had Baylor back in business at the K-State 33. Bell then hooked up with Dominick Zeigler from 11-yards out to put the Bears on top 14-3.
Ryan Havens, who missed a 50-yard field goal attempt at the end of the first half, capped the scoring with a 22-yard field goal late in the third quarter that were the final points of the game.
