Nelson Named a Consensus All-American

A native of Riley, Kan., Nelson had one of the finest seasons in K-State history as he grabbed a school-record 122 receptions for a school-record 1,606 yards and 11 touchdowns. His 10.2 catches per game average, 133.8 yards per game average and 1,606 total receiving yards all rank second nationally, while he also ranks 20th nationally in all-purpose yardage (155.2 ypg). He also has set the Big 12 record for catches and yards in a season by a senior wide receiver.
The Biletnikoff Award finalist recorded eight 100-yard receiving games and two 200-yard performances this season and caught 10 or more passes in six games, all of which are school records. His 15-catch performances against
The former walk-on has 206 receptions for 2,822 yards and 20 touchdowns during his three-year career at wide receiver to establish himself on three career top-10 receiving lists at K-State. He is currently second all-time at
The 28-man NCAA Consensus All-America Football Team features 14 players on offense and 14 on defense. The players listed had the majority of votes competing against players at that position only. The points system was used for the selections of the All-America team (three points for first team, two points for second team and one point for third team).
Eight players were unanimous choices by the five organizations used in the consensus chart American Football Coaches Association (First Team), Associated Press (First, Second and Third Teams), Football Writers Association of America (First Team), The Sporting News (First and Second Teams) and Walter Camp Foundation (First and Second Teams).
