The 827th overall pick of the 2007 draft, Edwards became the second Wildcat in two seasons to be taken by
Edwards, a junior, went 3-0 with a 2.27 ERA with 11 saves in 2007 and yielded just nine total runs in 35.2 innings of work this season. The First Team All-Big 12 performer and ABCA All-Midwest Region selection struck out a team-high 49 batters in those 35.2 innings while opponents hit just .173 against him.
His 11 saves this season tie the single-season school record, and for his career, Edwards now has 14 saves, which are the second-most in school history. He needs four more to tie the school record of 18, set by David Johnson. Edwards also ranks second in school history in career relief appearances with 58.
The Kingwood, Texas, native was a candidate for numerous national awards this season, including the Dick Howser Trophy, the Brooks Wallace Award, the Stopper of the Year Award and the Roger Clemens Award.
The 1,172nd overall pick in the draft, Rumler has been a mainstay in the infield since 2004 as the Wildcats’ shortstop. The Little River native started 146 career games as a Wildcat and played all four seasons at
A .273 hitter this season, Rumler left an indelible mark on Wildcat baseball as the senior cracked the school record books in several categories. Currently, Rumler holds the K-State career hit-by-pitches record with 37, and defensively, ranks fourth in career assists with 425. Rumler also had 15 career sacrifice bunts, which is fifth in school history.
A switch-hitting infielder, King (1,406th overall pick) was a four-year starter and a three-time all-district and all-Central Ohio selection for head coach Chris Huesman at Dublin Jerome High School. As a senior this past season, King collected a team-leading .489 batting average with 25 RBI, 29 runs scored, seven doubles and seven home runs. He was named the OCC-Cardinal Player of the Year and led his squad to the regional finals of the state playoffs.
