Wildcats of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. Josh Freeman of the K-State football team and Lauren Mathewson of the volleyball team are this week’s Wildcats of the Week honorees, announced on Tuesday morning by the Kansas State Athletic Department. This is the second time this season that Freeman and Mathewson have garnered the honor.

Josh Freeman, QB, Jr., Kansas City, Mo./Grandview HS

Josh Freeman led K-State to its first win at Texas A&M since 1996 Saturday by finishing the contest with 329 total yards, 234 passing and 95 rushing, and four rushing touchdowns. Freeman was 21-of-26 through the air with no interceptions for a rating of 156.37, while his four rushing touchdowns were the second-most in school history for a single game and moved him atop the Big 12 rankings in rushing touchdowns.

Lauren Mathewson, So., Libero, Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill South HS

Lauren Mathewson had the best week of her career defensively for the Wildcats in helping sure up the Wildcats’ back line in wins over Missouri and Oklahoma. Against Missouri, Mathewson had 20 digs in four sets one shy of her career high. and added three assists. Mathewson followed that performance with a new career-high of 30 digs on the road against Oklahoma. Mathewson helped limit the Sooners to hitting .176 as a team and come from behind for the win after Oklahoma had match point in the third set.
