Players and staff began cleanup at the site at approximately 10 a.m. Thursday morning and worked until 2 p.m., picking up and moving debris while also supplying moral support to those who suffered losses.
“We wanted to help those in need today in any possible way because they need a lot of help over there right now,” said captain and All-America candidate Ian Campbell. “We as a team and a program wanted to give back as much as we could and this was the best way for us to do that.”
Fellow teammates Alesana Alesana and Jordan Bedore also reflected on the events.
“I have never seen anything quite like this,” Alesana said. “I could never imagine that such damage could occur to an entire neighborhood after just a few seconds.”
“It was great to see the positive spirit of those who were affected the most,” Bedore, also a captain, said. “We really wanted to give back to the community and it was refreshing to see the community come together during such a difficult time.”
