Hoge Taken by Mets on Final Day of MLB Draft

SECAUCUS, N.J. Kansas State senior pitcher Lance Hoge became the Wildcats’ fifth selection of the 2009 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft on Thursday afternoon when the New York Mets took the left-hander with the 23rd pick of the 36th round (No. 1094 overall).
Hoge is the first Wildcat taken by the Mets since outfielder Greg Korbe was picked in the 26th round of the 1978 draft. The senior improved K-State’s draft-pick total to 11 over the last two seasons and 18 since head coach

Hoge recorded arguably his best outing of the season in a seven-inning effort against No. 15 Texas A&M where he allowed just one run on four hits with four strikeouts. Hoge backed that performance up by allowing just one run in 5.1 innings at No. 2 Texas in a game that the Cats eventually won in extra innings.
