Letter from A.D. John Currie - October 4
Oct 04, 2011 | General
As Big 12 Conference action heats up (on the field too!), your continued
support of our K-State student-athletes this Saturday for the Missouri game is
more important than ever. Thanks to your support, the passion of our student
section, our tailgating scene, and the tremendous Pride of Wildcatland Marching
Band, we already have a gameday atmosphere second to none... AND... Saturday's
game against Missouri also provides our fans the opportunity to witness one of
the most unique traditions in college football - Harley Day!
The ticket office phone and internet registers have been ringing hard but good
seats are still available for as little as $40, so help us send a message to
our ABC television audience by filling Bill Snyder Family Stadium with 50,000
strong! In order to accommodate fans in purchasing tickets for Saturday's game,
our ticket office at Bramlage Coliseum will be open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.
this week until the game is sold out. But don't wait until Saturday - reserve
your tickets now by calling 1-800-221-CATS, visiting our website at www.k-statesports.com/tickets or
stopping by the ticket office.
Volleyball Returns Home Wednesday
Come out to Ahearn tomorrow night for the 7 p.m. match and support Coach Fritz
and the 13-4 Cats as they take on Iowa State in a huge conference match. The
Cats are 2-1 in the Big 12 and have won 13 out of their last 15 matches.
Congratulations to sophomore Kaitlynn Pelger as she was named Big 12 Player of
the Week twice and National Player of the Week once during the Cats' win
streak. The first 200 fans in attendance tomorrow night can purchase $1
pretzels!
Rowing Strong in Oklahoma
The rowing team closed out its fall schedule last weekend in
Oklahoma with a strong showing. The 1st Novice 8 came home with the gold after
clocking in at 15:00.932, while the 1st Varsity 8 also turned in a
solid race. Coach Sweeney and the rowing team will now begin preparations for a
spring schedule that begins March 16 in Texas.
Also in Action
Both golf teams will compete in final round action today as the women's team
will tee it up in Missouri and the men's team at home out at beautiful Colbert
Hills. Good luck to reigning Big 12 Player of the Year Petra Niedermayerova
this week as she will compete in the main draw of the ITA/Riviera Women's
All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., beginning tomorrow.
State of the University
Friday afternoon I attended President Schulz's excellent "State of the
University" address in Forum Hall. Did you know that K-State has record
enrollment (again) and is now officially the preferred college destination for
more Kansas high school students than any other university? Click
here to watch President Schulz's speech and view the accompanying power
point presentation.
Big 12 Update
Of course no letter these days is complete without the requisite conference
realignment update. President Schulz and I continue to be engaged and active in
conversations with our peers in the conference and around the country. We are
glad to have Interim Commissioner Chuck Neinas now fully involved in the
efforts to achieve long term stability and prosperity for the Big 12. Click
here to read yesterday's Big 12 release on Board actions.
Despite the distractions, Big 12 student-athletes are doing their part as six
of 10 Big 12 football programs are currently
ranked in the Top 25, including your K-State Wildcats at No. 20!
Thanks again for your continued support. Keep the K-State connection strong by
following us on twitter,
facebook,
k-statesports.com, K-StateHD.TV
and K-State
Sports Extra for all of the latest happenings in K-State Athletics. You can
also help by forwarding the links above to your other K-State friends.
We will see you Wednesday night at Ahearn and Saturday at Bill Snyder Family
Stadium.
Go Cats!
