K-State Falls to 19/19 Oklahoma

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Kansas State had no answer for Oklahoma's offense as the Sooners put up 568 total yards on their way to a 55-0 victory over the Wildcats on Saturday in front of a sold-out Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The loss marked the first time the Wildcats have been shutout at home since the 1991 season.

K-State's (3-3, 0-3 Big 12) offense struggled to get anything going in the game, putting up 110 total yards in the game. Quarterbacks Joe Hubener and Kody Cook went a combined 5-for-22 for 45 yards and three interceptions between the pair.

Cook led all K-State rushers with 19 yards on the ground on 11 attempts. Junior Charles Jones led all running backs with 18 yards on five attempts. Overall, the Wildcats tallied 65 yards on the ground.

Sophomore defensive back Sean Newlan led K-State with a career-high 14 tackles. Redshirt freshman Sam Sizelove also had a career day, adding a career-high eight tackles, six of which were solo tackles. Sophomore defensive tackle Will Geary also set three new careers with eight tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks in the game.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield led the Oklahoma offensive attack with five passing touchdowns on 20-of-27 attempts and 282 yards. Twelve different receivers caught passes led by Dede Westbrook's five catches for 85 yards. Wide out Sterling Shepard had a pair of touchdown receptions on 83 yards receiving. Running back Joe Mixon had 73 yards on 15 carries to pace a Sooner rushing group that accumulated 232 yards on 30 carries.

Oklahoma (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) opened the scoring 64 seconds into the game, taking the ball 75 yards in five plays to take the early 7-0 lead as Mayfield connected with Shepard for a 22-yard touchdown pass. Mayfield was perfect on the drive, completing all four of his passes for 71 yards.

The Sooners took advantage of good field position after a Hubener interception as Mixon caught a 10-yard pass from Mayfield to give the Sooners a 14-0 lead with nine minutes left in the first quarter.

Mayfield threw his third touchdown pass three minutes into the second quarter, connecting with Shepard on a 28-yard pass to push the lead to 21-0. All four of Mayfield's passes on the drive went for over 10 yards.

Oklahoma scored again with 7:29 remaining in the first half as wide receiver Mark Andrews caught a 3-yard pass from Mayfield, capping an 8-play, 58-yard drive to give Oklahoma a 28-0 advantage. The drive was highlighted by a 13-yard scamper by running back Samaje Perine, which set up the score.

Another Hubener interception led to a fifth Oklahoma touchdown after the Sooners took the ball 27 yards on five plays to extend their lead to 35-0. The score was Mayfield's fifth touchdown pass of the half.

Defensive back Zack Sanchez returned a Cook pass 38-yards to give the Sooners a 42-0 lead just 22 seconds into the second half. The interception was Sanchez's second pick of the game.

The Sooners tacked on three more points five minutes later as placekicker Austin Seibert connected on a field goal – a 20-yarder – to extend the lead to 45-0. A 36-yard pass from Mayfield to Westbrook set up the field goal attempt.

Seibert added another field goal, this one from 19-yards, on the Sooners' next drive to push the lead to 48-0. The score capped a 12-play, 55 yard drive. Running back Daniel Brooks broke a 20-yard run, his longest of the game, on the way to score.

Oklahoma scored its final touchdown at the 9:44 mark of the fourth quarter, as Mixon scored the only rushing touchdown of the game to give the Sooners a 55-0 lead. The rush capped a 7:42 drive which went for 53 yards on 12 plays.

K-State returns to action next Saturday, as the Wildcats travel to Austin, Texas, to take on the Texas Longhorns. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT and will be televised nationally on Fox Sports 1.
