
263 Wildcats Named to Fall 2016 Big 12 Honor Roll

MANHATTAN, Kansas – Kansas State student-athletes had a strong fall semester in the classroom, as a total of 263 K-State student-athletes were named to the Fall 2015 Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in an announcement from the league office today. The conference recognizes all student-athletes at its member institutions during each semester with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
The 263 student-athletes to earn the honor marked the 18th straight semester K-State has placed 200 or more student-athletes on the honor roll. In the Fall 2014 honor roll, K-State saw 269 student-athletes earn the recognition, which was the highest since John Currie took the reins of K-State Athletics in the summer of 2009.
Of the 263 K-State student-athletes earning the citation for their academic excellence, 53 registered a GPA of 4.0 in the fall semester. K-State ranks among the league’s best in terms of academic success as it continues to set a national standard in terms of APR, as all programs are currently well above the required NCAA standard.
The rowing and football teams led all Wildcat athletic teams with 53 and 52 honorees, respectively, on the Fall 2016 Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Other total student-athletes on the honor roll include: women’s track and field (32), women’s soccer (28), baseball (23), men’s track and field (20), volleyball (15), men’s basketball (11), men’s golf (10), women’s basketball (eight), women’s tennis (7), and women’s golf (4). 11 of the 12 athletic program’s at K-State placed 50 percent or more of its fall rosters on the honor roll – rowing, baseball, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, volleyball, men’s golf, women’s golf, women’s tennis, men’s track and women’s track.

K-State has had an outstanding start to the 2016-17 academic year. The Wildcats saw 23 student-athletes graduate in December of 2016. The fall sports were recognized with the following honors: 53 Academic All-Big 12 recipients, Kersten Kober (volleyball) and Katie Brand (volleyball), were named CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 selections and Brand was a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award.
