Jaffrey, McSherry Pace K-State on Day One of Magnolia Invitational

WEST POINT, Mississippi – Led by senior Connie Jaffrey and freshman Niamh McSherry at even-par 72, the Kansas State women's golf team is tied for sixth place following the first round of the Magnolia Invitational on Sunday at the par-72, 6,320-yard Old Waverly Golf Club.
The Wildcats shot a 13-over par 301 as they are tied with LSU. K-State is five strokes behind fifth-place team Mississippi State.
Jaffrey and McSherry are tied for ninth place individually as they each recorded three birdies and three bogeys in the first round.
"Connie and Niamh both played well," said head coach Kristi Knight. "Overall, we had too many doubles. We will put today behind us and come out ready to play with confidence and composure tomorrow."
Following Jaffrey and McSherry were freshmen Reid Isaac and Ella Adams. Isaac carded a 6-over par 79, while Adams was at 7-over par 79 to sit in a tie for 42nd and 47th, respectively. Junior Chloe Weir finished the first round at 9-over par 81 to reside in a tie for 55th place.
Ole Miss fired a 10-under par 278 to lead the event by nine strokes over Tennessee. The Volunteers' Anna Newell shot a 5-under par 67 to lead the way on the individual leaderboard, one stroke ahead of a two-way tie for second place.
The Magnolia Invitational will resume Monday with an 8:30 a.m., tee time the second round. Live results can be followed at www.golfstat.com and results will be available at www.kstatesports.com after play on Monday.
