MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2017 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, CB – Atlanta Falcons
A wide receiver for his entire K-State career in addition to the preseason with the Atlanta, Burton is now a cornerback on the Falcons' practice squad. Atlanta came out of its bye week with a 20-17 defeat at the hands of Miami to fall to 3-2 on the year. Atlanta will attempt to avenge its Super Bowl loss from a year ago as it travels to face New England on Sunday night.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
Finney, an undrafted rookie free agent in 2015 who is in his second year on the active roster, started at left guard and played on all 64 offensive snaps in Pittsburgh's 19-13 victory at Kansas City. It was his fifth-career start – including his second this season – as he helped a Steeler offense rack up 194 rushing yards and 439 yards of total offense. A product of Andale, Kansas, Finney has played in 18 career games. Pittsburgh leads the AFC North with a 4-2 record as it hosts Cincinnati on Sunday.
Emmanuel Lamur, LB – Minnesota Vikings
A sixth-year linebacker, Lamur registered five tackles in 38 defensive snaps while also seeing time on 11 special teams plays in Minnesota's 23-10 victory over divisional foe Green Bay. Lamur, a second-year player for the Vikings after spending his first four seasons in Cincinnati, has 168 career tackles, a half sack, 11 passes defended and two interceptions. The Vikings pulled even with the Packers atop the NFC North standings at 4-2 and host Baltimore on Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
Lee appeared in four special teams plays in San Francisco's 26-24 cross-country loss at Washington. The Blue Springs, Missouri, product has a tackle this year on punt coverage in week 5 in Indianapolis, a play in which he forced a fumble. Lee was originally a seventh-round draft pick by Minnesota in the 2017 NFL Draft and a member of the Vikings' practice squad until he signed with San Francisco's active roster on Sept. 13. Still seeking their first win this season, San Francisco host Dallas on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR/Returner – Seattle Seahawks
Lockett and the Seattle Seahawks were off last week. In five games this season, the Tulsa, Oklahoma, product has 16 catches for 195 yards and has returned six kickoffs for a 25.5-yard average. Seattle, 3-2 on the year to sit a half game behind the Rams for first place in the NFC West, travels to face the New York Giants on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OT – Los Angeles Rams
A three-year offensive lineman for Detroit who signed with the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 13, Lucas has been inactive for all five games with the Rams. LA earned a 27-17 cross-country victory at Jacksonville on Sunday to improve to an NFC West-leading 4-2 record. The Rams host Arizona on Sunday.
Charmeachealle Moore, LB – Los Angeles Chargers
Moore, an undrafted rookie free agent signee by the Chargers, is on injured reserve for the 2017 season. Los Angeles earned its second-straight win – a 17-16 victory at Oakland – to improve to 2-4 on the year. The Chargers host Denver on Sunday.
Jordy Nelson, WR – Green Bay Packers
Nelson, a 10-year veteran who has spent his entire career in Green Bay, hauled in six receptions for 60 yards in the Packers' 23-10 loss at Minnesota. In six games this year, Nelson has 25 catches for 290 yards and six touchdowns, the latter tying for first in the NFL. The Riley, Kansas, product is second in Green Bay history in career receiving touchdowns (69), fourth in catches (522) and fifth in yards (7,656). Green Bay dropped to 4-2 on the year to fall into a first-place tie with Minnesota in the NFC North. The Packers host New Orleans on Sunday.
Terence Newman, CB – Minnesota Vikings
A 15-year NFL veteran in his third season with Minnesota, Newman started and tallied five tackles in Minnesota's key 23-10 divisional victory over Green Bay. The Salina, Kansas, product played in his 209th career game – the 10th most among active NFL players and second most among defensive players – while he made his 200th career start to rank seventh in the NFL and second among active defenders. Newman, who has 17 tackles and a pass breakup this season, now has 858 career tackles to go along with two sacks, 168 passes defended and 41 interceptions, the latter ranking second in the NFL among active players. Minnesota is now 3-3 this year to tie with the Packers for first place in the NFC North, and the Vikings host Baltimore on Sunday.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
Sproles, a 13-year veteran, was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 25, due to season-ending injuries sustained in Week 3. The Olathe, Kansas, native has 19,155 career all-purpose yards, which ranks first among active players and eighth in NFL history. Philadelphia improved to an NFC East-leading 5-1 record with a 28-23 win over Carolina last Thursday. The Eagles host Washington next Monday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair, a second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, carded his 22nd-straight start at center and saw action on all 80 offensive plays in Chicago's 27-24 overtime win at Baltimore on Sunday. Whitehair has played on all 405 offensive snaps this year for the 2-4 Bears, who host Carolina on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
Willis and the Cincinnati Bengals were off last week. A third-round pick in this year's draft to extend K-State's Big 12-leading draft streak to 24 years, Willis has 12 tackles and a sack this year for the 2-3 Bengals, who travel to face Pittsburgh on Sunday.
