Oct 23, 2017 | Women's Golf
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Kansas State senior women's golfer Connie Jaffrey recorded a 1-under par 71 on Monday to sit in a tie for first place following the second round of the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational at the par-72, 6,450-yard Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
Jaffrey is at 7-under par 137 for the event as she leads the Wildcats, who are in ninth place at 12-over par 588 through two rounds.
Jaffrey bested her season-low 36-hole score by one stroke, a mark she set during the first two rounds of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational last month. The Kilwinning, Scotland, native was inconsistent on the front nine but settled down in the back with four birdies.
"We were a little off today," said head coach Kristi Knight. "The conditions were for scoring and we did not capitalize on them. There was still a lot of good shots and positives from today. Connie played well again she regained her composure after a tough stretch early in the round. She put together a solid round. Overall I am proud of the teams effort."
Freshmen Reid Isaac and Niamh McSherry each recorded a 3-over par 75 on Monday. Isaac is tied for 48th at 7-over par 151, while McSherry enters Tuesday's final round tied for 53rd at 8-over par 152. Freshman Ella Adams is tied for 58th at 11-over par 155, just one stroke ahead of fellow freshman Darby Deans, who is at 12-over par 156 to sit in a tie for 60th.
Arkansas continues to lead the field with a score of 22-under par 554, thanks to a 15-under par 273 on Monday. Jaffrey is tied with TCU's Emmy Martin for first place, and the duo holds a one-stroke lead over Arkansas' Cara Gorlei and Texas A&M's Maddie Szeryk.
The Maryb S. Kauth Invitational will conclude on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. Live results can be followed a www.birdiefire.com.
