MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2017 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, CB – Atlanta Falcons
Burton, who was a wide receiver for his entire K-State career in addition to the preseason with the Atlanta, is now a cornerback on the Falcons' practice squad. After starting the year 3-0, the Falcons have lost three-straight, which included a 23-7 defeat at New England this past Sunday night. Atlanta travels to another AFC East foe, the New York Jets, on Sunday.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
An undrafted rookie free agent in 2015 who is in his second year on the active roster, Finney saw time on seven special teams plays in Pittsburgh's 29-14 home win over Cincinnati. A product of Andale, Kansas, Finney has played in 18 career games with five starts, including three this season. Pittsburgh leads the AFC North with a 5-2 record as the Steelers travel to face Detroit on Sunday night.
Emmanuel Lamur, LB – Minnesota Vikings
Lamur, a sixth-year linebacker, played on 11 special teams plays in Minnesota's 24-16 home victory over Baltimore, its third-straight victory. A second-year player for the Vikings after spending his first four seasons in Cincinnati, Lamur has 168 career tackles, a half sack, 11 passes defended and two interceptions. The Vikings took over first place in the NFC North at 5-2 as they travel to face Cleveland next Sunday in London, England.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
Lee appeared in 21 special teams plays in San Francisco's 40-10 home loss to Dallas. The Blue Springs, Missouri, product had a tackle this year on punt coverage in week 5 in Indianapolis, a play in which he forced a fumble. Lee was originally a seventh-round draft pick by Minnesota in the 2017 NFL Draft and a member of the Vikings' practice squad until he signed with San Francisco's active roster on Sept. 13. Still seeking their first win this season, the 0-7 49ers travel across the country for the second time in three weeks to play at Philadelphia on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR/Returner – Seattle Seahawks
Lockett registered 124 all-purpose yards in Seattle's 24-7 cross-country victory at the New York Giants. The third-year pro tallied 29 receiving yards on four catches, 15 rushing yards on three attempts, 45 kickoff-return yards on two tries and 35 punt-return yards on four attempts. In six games this season, the Tulsa, Oklahoma, product has 20 catches for 224 yards and has returned eight kickoffs for a 24.8-yard average, the latter ranking sixth in the NFL. Seattle, now 4-2 on the year to sit a half game behind the Rams for first place in the NFC West, hosts Houston on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OT – Los Angeles Rams
Lucas, a three-year offensive lineman for Detroit who signed with the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 13, has been inactive for all six games with the Rams. LA blanked Arizona, 33-0, to improve to an NFC West-leading 5-2 record heading into its bye week.
Charmeachealle Moore, LB – Los Angeles Chargers
Moore, an undrafted rookie free agent signee by the Chargers, is on injured reserve for the 2017 season. After starting the season 0-4, Los Angeles picked up its third-straight victory in the form of a 21-0 home shutout of Denver. The Chargers put their winning streak on the line when they travel to New England on Sunday.
Jordy Nelson, WR – Green Bay Packers
A 10-year veteran who has spent his entire career in Green Bay, Nelson caught one of his four targets for 13 yards in the Packers' 26-17 home loss to New Orleans. In seven games this year, Nelson has 26 catches for 303 yards and six touchdowns, the latter tying for first in the NFL. The Riley, Kansas, product is second in Green Bay history in career receiving touchdowns (69), fourth in catches (523) and fifth in yards (7,669). The Packers fell for a second-straight week as they are now 4-3 to sit in second place in the NFC North entering their bye week.
Terence Newman, CB – Minnesota Vikings
Newman, a 15-year NFL veteran in his third season with Minnesota, came away with three tackles in a 24-16 Viking victory over Baltimore. The Salina, Kansas, product played in his 210th career game, the 10th most among active NFL players and second most among defensive players. Newman, who has 20 tackles and a pass breakup this season, now has 861 career tackles to go along with two sacks, 168 passes defended and 41 interceptions, the latter ranking second in the NFL among active players. Minnesota tallied its third-straight victory to improve to 5-2, and the Vikings travel to face Cleveland next Sunday in London, England.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
A 13-year veteran, Sproles was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 25, due to season-ending injuries sustained in Week 3. The Olathe, Kansas, native has 19,155 career all-purpose yards, which ranks first among active players and eighth in NFL history. Philadelphia earned a 34-24 Monday-night victory over NFC East foe Washington to improve to an NFL-best 6-1 record this season. The Eagles host San Francisco on Sunday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
A second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Whitehair registered his 23rd-straight start at center in Chicago's 17-3 victory over Carolina. The Bears were able to win the game despite only running 38 offensive plays, all of which Whitehair was in for as he has played on all 443 offensive snaps this year. Chicago earned its second-straight victory to improve to 3-4 on the year, and the Bears travel to New Orleans on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
Willis carded one tackle on 23 defensive snaps, while he also played on 10 special teams plays, in Cincinnati's 29-14 loss at Pittsburgh. A third-round pick in this year's draft to extend K-State's Big 12-leading draft streak to 24 years, Willis has 13 tackles and a sack this year for the 2-4 Bengals, who host Indianapolis on Sunday.
