MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2017 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, CB – Atlanta Falcons
After spending his entire K-State career in addition to the preseason with the Atlanta at wide receiver, Burton is now a cornerback on the Falcons' practice squad. Atlanta dropped a 23-17 decision to Buffalo – its first loss of the season – to fall to 3-1. The Falcons are off next week.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
Finney, an undrafted rookie free agent in 2015 who is in his second year on the active roster, made his fourth-career start as an eligible tackle in Pittsburgh's 26-9 victory at AFC North-foe Baltimore. A product of Andale, Kansas, Finney played on 15 offensive plays and five special teams plays in the game. The Steelers host Jacksonville on Sunday.
Emmanuel Lamur, LB – Minnesota Vikings
A sixth-year linebacker, Lamur played on seven special teams plays in Minnesota's 14-7 home loss to Detroit. Lamur, a second-year player for the Vikings after spending his first four seasons in Cincinnati, has 163 career tackles, a half sack, 11 passes defended and two interceptions. The Vikings fell to 2-2 on the year and travel to Chicago on Monday.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
Originally a seventh-round draft pick by Minnesota in the 2017 NFL Draft and a member of the Vikings' practice squad, Lee signed with San Francisco's active roster Sept. 13, and has played in the 49ers' last three games. He was in on 25 special teams plays in San Francisco's 18-15 overtime loss at Arizona. The 49ers, now 0-4 on the year, travel to face Indianapolis on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR/Returner – Seattle Seahawks
Lockett was Seattle's leading receiver with four receptions for 67 yards, while he also rushed twice for 24 yards and returned a kickoff 16 yards in the Seahawks' 46-18 home victory over Indianapolis. In four games this season, the Tulsa, Oklahoma, product has 13 catches for 169 yards and has returned six kickoffs for a 25.5-yard average, the latter ranking fifth in the NFL. He also ranks 14th in the NFL in all-purpose yards. Seattle improved to 2-2 on the year and travels to face the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OT – Los Angeles Rams
A three-year offensive lineman for Detroit, Lucas signed with the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 13 but has been inactive in his first three games with the Rams. LA improved to 3-1 with a 35-30 road win at Dallas, and the Rams host Seattle on Sunday.
Charmeachealle Moore, LB – Los Angeles Chargers
Moore, an undrafted rookie free agent signee by the Chargers, is on injured reserve for the 2017 season. Los Angeles fell at home to Philadelphia, 26-24, to fall to 0-4. The Chargers travel to face the New York Giants on Sunday.
Jordy Nelson, WR – Green Bay Packers
Nelson, a 10-year veteran who has spent his entire career in Green Bay, carded four receptions for 75 yards and touchdown catches of 4 and 8 yards in the Packers' 35-14 home victory over Chicago on Thursday night. In four games this year, Nelson has 17 catches for 206 yards and an NFL-leading five touchdowns. The Riley, Kansas, product is second in Green Bay history in receiving touchdowns (68), fourth in catches (514) and fifth in yards (7,572). Green Bay improved to 3-1 on the year and travels to Dallas on Sunday.
Terence Newman, CB – Minnesota Vikings
A 15-year NFL veteran in his third season with Minnesota, Newman made the start and registered a tackle in the Vikings' 14-7 home loss to Detroit. The Salina, Kansas, product played in his 209th career game – the 10th most among active NFL players and second most among defensive players – and made his 198th career start. He now has 851 career tackles to go along with two sacks, 168 passes defended and 41 interceptions, the latter ranking second in the NFL among active players. Minnesota fell to 2-2 on the year and travels to Chicago on Monday night.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
Sproles, a 13-year veteran, was placed on injured reserve last week due to season-ending injuries sustained in Week 3. The Olathe, Kansas, native has 19,155 career all-purpose yards, which ranks first among active players and eighth in NFL history. The Eagles picked up a 26-24 victory at the Los Angeles Chargers to improve to 3-1 on the year. Philadelphia hosts Arizona on Sunday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair, a second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, recorded his 20th-straight start at center and played on all 68 offensive snaps in Chicago's 35-14 loss at Green Bay on Sunday night. Chicago, now 1-3 on the year, hosts Minnesota next Monday.
Jordan Willis, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
Willis, a third-round pick in this year's draft to extend K-State's Big 12-leading draft streak to 24 years, carded two tackles while playing on 21 defensive plays and 12 special teams plays in Cincinnati's 31-7 victory at Cleveland. A product of Kansas City, Missouri, Willis now has nine tackles this year for the 1-3 Bengals, who host Buffalo on Sunday.
