MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2017 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, CB – Atlanta Falcons
A wide receiver for his entire K-State career in addition to the preseason with the Atlanta, Burton is now a cornerback on the Falcons' practice squad. The Falcons ended their three-game losing streak with a 25-20 win at the New York Jets. Now 4-3 on the year, Atlanta travels to Carolina for an NFC South matchup on Sunday.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
Finney, an undrafted rookie free agent in 2015 who is in his second year on the active roster, saw action on four special teams plays in Pittsburgh's narrow 20-15 victory at Detroit. A product of Andale, Kansas, Finney has played in 19 career games with five starts, including three this season. Pittsburgh leads the AFC North at 6-2 as the Steelers enter their bye week.
Emmanuel Lamur, LB – Minnesota Vikings
A sixth-year linebacker, Lamur carded two tackles and recovered a fumble on special teams in Minnesota's 33-16 win over Cleveland in London. A second-year player for the Vikings after spending his first four seasons in Cincinnati, Lamur has 170 career tackles, a half sack, 11 passes defended and two interceptions. Entering its bye week, Minnesota has now won four-straight games to sit atop the NFC North standings at 6-2.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
Lee saw action on 29 special teams plays in San Francisco's 33-10 loss at Philadelphia on Sunday. The Blue Springs, Missouri, product had a tackle this year on punt coverage in week 5 in Indianapolis, a play in which he forced a fumble. Originally a seventh-round draft pick by Minnesota in the 2017 NFL Draft, Lee was a member of the Vikings' practice squad until he signed with San Francisco's active roster on Sept. 13. Still seeking their first win this season, the 0-8 49ers host NFC West rival Arizona on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR/Returner – Seattle Seahawks
Lockett carded a team-high 121 receiving yards to go along with 42 return yards in Seattle's wild 41-38 home win over Houston. A third-year pro, Lockett's day was highlighted by a 54-yard reception, while he also had catches of 27 and 19 yards. In seven games this season, the Tulsa, Oklahoma, product has 26 catches for 345 yards and returned 10 kickoffs for a 23.0-yard average. The victory pulled the Seahawks into a first-place tie in the NFC West at 5-2, and they host Washington on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OT – Los Angeles Rams
A three-year offensive lineman for Detroit who signed with the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 13, Lucas and the Rams were off last week. Los Angeles is tied for first in the NFC West with a 5-2 record and travels to the New York Giants on Sunday.
Charmeachealle Moore, LB – Los Angeles Chargers
An undrafted rookie free agent signee by the Chargers, Moore is on injured reserve for the 2017 season. Los Angeles suffered a 21-13 setback at New England to fall to 3-5 on the year as the Chargers enter their bye week.
Jordy Nelson, WR – Green Bay Packers
Nelson, a 10-year veteran, and the Green Bay Packers were idle last week. In seven games this year, Nelson has 26 catches for 303 yards and six touchdowns, the latter tying for second in the NFL. The Riley, Kansas, product is second in Green Bay history in career receiving touchdowns (69), fourth in catches (523) and fifth in yards (7,669). The Packers come out of their bye week with a Monday-night contest against NFC North foe Detroit.
Terence Newman, CB – Minnesota Vikings
A 15-year NFL veteran in his third season with Minnesota, Newman started and recorded a pass breakup across the pond in London in the Vikings' 33-16 win over Cleveland. The Salina, Kansas, product played in his 211th career game – the 10th most among active NFL players and second most among defensive players – while he made his 201st career start – the seventh most among active NFL players. Newman, who has 20 tackles and two pass breakups this season, now has 861 career tackles to go along with two sacks, 169 passes defended and 41 interceptions, the latter ranking second in the NFL among active players. Winners of four in a row, Minnesota enters its bye week with a 6-2 record to lead the NFC North.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
Sproles, a 13-year veteran, was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 25, due to season-ending injuries sustained in Week 3. The Olathe, Kansas, native has 19,155 career all-purpose yards, which ranks first among active players and eighth in NFL history. Philadelphia won its sixth-straight game with a 33-10 triumph over San Francisco. The Eagles lead the NFL with a 7-1 mark and host Denver on Sunday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair, a second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, carded his 24th-straight start at center in Chicago's 20-12 loss at New Orleans on Sunday, a game in which Whitehair left due to an elbow injury. Now 3-5 on the year, Whitehair will have time to heal as the Bears are off next week.
Jordan Willis, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
A third-round pick in this year's draft, Willis carded one tackle and blocked a punt to help Cincinnati squeak out a 24-23 home win over Indianapolis. The player who extended K-State's Big 12-leading draft streak to 24 years, Willis has 14 tackles and a sack this year for the 3-4 Bengals, who who travel to Jacksonville on Sunday.
