Wildcats Claim Team, Individual Titles at Trinity Forest Invitational

DALLAS, Texas – Kansas State freshman women's golfer Reid Isaac won the first tournament of her career as she led the Wildcats to a victory to cap their fall slate during the final round of the Trinity Forest Invitational on Tuesday at the par-72, 6,372-yard Trinity Forest Golf Club.
The Wildcats, who won their second tournament of the season after capturing the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational last month, finished the event at 29-over par 893 to top No. 27 Houston by two strokes and finish better than all eight ranked teams in the 13-team field.
Winning multiple team championships in a season for the first time since 2014-15, K-State had the best round of the day with a 14-over par 302.
"It is very satisfying," head coach Kristi Knight said of the win. "This is a very challenging golf course. You have to give the ladies credit – they came in with an open mindset and they embraced the challenge. They handled the adversity, and, for the most part, they did a very good job of keeping their composure. It paid off, and I am really proud of them."
Isaac, a freshman from Montgomery, Texas, continued her success from day one as she shot a 2-over par 74 in the final round to win by two strokes. Isaac finished the tournament at 1-under par 215 to become the first freshman to win an individual tournament title since teammate Connie Jaffrey did so in September 2014.
"I really just tried to stay up today. The wind was a lot like what we play with, so it was definitely an advantage for us," Isaac said. "I haven't had a win in a really long time, and I did not even realize I was toward the top of the leaderboard going down to the last three holes. Being close to home, my dad was able to come watch and a few of my friends and coaches too, so it was awesome for them to be able to see me play and support me."
Isaac was able to bring home the individual title thanks to a bogey-free back nine with a key birdie on No. 16.
Jaffrey moved up eight spots on the final day with a 1-over par 73 round as she tied for eighth place at 7-over par 223.
Freshman Niamh McSherry recorded the best finish of her fall campaign as she tied for 13th place at 9-over par 225. Her previous best finish was a tie for 34th at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational.
Another freshman, Ella Adams, followed by carding a 14-over par 230 to tie for 26th, while sophomore Tash Carlsson shot a 31-over par 247 to tie for 67th.
Following second-place Houston was 30th-ranked Tennessee, which carded a 46-over par 910, while No. 29 Texas Tech and No. 39 Texas A&M tied for fourth at 47-over par 911. Brigitte Dune of SMU finished in second on the individual leaderboard at 1-over par 217, edging out third-place Jess Yuen of Missouri by one stroke.
Kansas State will begin its spring season with the Westbrook Invitational, February 25-26, in Peoria, Arizona.
