MANHATTAN, Kan. – After guiding Kansas State to its first road win over a top-10 opponent since 2012, hall of fame head coach Bill Snyder has been named the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week, the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl announced Tuesday.
Snyder, a Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year honoree in 1998 and 2012, led the Wildcats to a 45-40 victory at No. 10 Oklahoma State last Saturday as the Wildcats became bowl eligible for an eighth-straight season and the 19th time under the direction of Snyder. The victory was the Wildcats' first in Stillwater since 1999, while it gave Snyder his 122nd Big 8/12 win to move into sole possession of second place on the list.
Snyder's honor adds to the Wildcats' accolades following the victory at OSU as the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) named K-State the National Team of the Week, while wide receiver Byron Pringle (offensive) and quarterback Skylar Thompson (newcomer) were named Big 12 players of the week.
"Coach Snyder and the Wildcats secured a big victory to earn a bowl bid going into the final week of the season," said Jim Terry, chairman of the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation. "Snyder continues to reach new milestones as one of the most iconic and decorated coaches in the game."
In his 26th year at the helm of the Wildcats, Snyder has compiled a 208-110-1 (.654) record, making him one of just six coaches to reach the 200-win mark coaching at only one school. He ranks first in the FBS in wins among coaches at their current schools and second in total wins among active coaches.
Snyder has also guided his players to success in the classroom as the Wildcats have totaled 111 Academic All-Big 12 honors over the last four seasons, 35 more than the next closest program.
K-State hosts Iowa State on Saturday inside Bill Snyder Family Stadium, a 2:30 p.m., game on ESPN2 that will serve as Senior Day.
