MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2017 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, CB – Atlanta Falcons
Burton, a wide receiver for his entire K-State career in addition to the preseason with the Atlanta, is now a cornerback on the Falcons' practice squad. The Falcons lost at Carolina, 20-17, to fall to 4-4 on the year, and Atlanta hosts Dallas on Sunday.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
An undrafted rookie free agent in 2015 who is in his second year on the active roster, Finney and the Pittsburgh Steelers were idle last week. A product of Andale, Kansas, Finney has played in 19 career games with five starts, including three this season. Pittsburgh, which leads the AFC North at 6-2, travels to Indianapolis on Sunday.
Emmanuel Lamur, LB – Minnesota Vikings
Lamur, a sixth-year linebacker, and the Minnesota Vikings had their bye last week. A second-year player for the Vikings after spending his first four seasons in Cincinnati, Lamur has 170 career tackles, a half sack, 11 passes defended and two interceptions. Minnesota, which entered the bye on a four-game winning streak, is 6-2 on the year to lead the NFC North and travels to Washington on Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
Lee played on nine special teams plays in San Francisco's 20-10 home loss to Arizona. The Blue Springs, Missouri, product had a tackle this year on punt coverage in Week 5 in Indianapolis, a play in which he forced a fumble. Originally a seventh-round draft pick by Minnesota in the 2017 NFL Draft, Lee was a member of the Vikings' practice squad until he signed with San Francisco's active roster on Sept. 13. Still seeking their first win this season, the 49ers host the New York Giants on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR/Returner – Seattle Seahawks
A third-year pro, Lockett caught two passes for 10 yards, returned five punts for 45 yards and two kickoffs for 33 yards in Seattle's 17-14 home loss to Washington. In seven games this season, the Tulsa, Oklahoma, product has 28 catches for 355 yards and returned 12 kickoffs for a 21.9-yard average. Now 5-3 on the year to sit in second place in the NFC West, the Seahawks travel to face Arizona on Thursday night.
Cornelius Lucas, OT – Los Angeles Rams
Lucas, a three-year offensive lineman for Detroit who signed with the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 13, was inactive for his seventh-straight game, a 51-17 Ram victory at the New York Giants. Los Angeles leads the NFC West with a 6-2 record and hosts Houston on Sunday.
Charmeachealle Moore, LB – Los Angeles Chargers
An undrafted rookie free agent signee by the Chargers, Moore is on injured reserve for the 2017 season. Los Angeles, 3-5 on the year, was off last week and comes out of its bye week with a game at Jacksonville on Sunday.
Jordy Nelson, WR – Green Bay Packers
A 10-year veteran, Nelson carded four catches for 35 yards in Green Bay's 30-17 Monday-night home loss to Detroit. In eight games this year, Nelson has 30 catches for 338 yards and six touchdowns, the latter tying for second in the NFL. The Riley, Kansas, product is second in Green Bay history in career receiving touchdowns (69), fourth in catches (527) and fifth in yards (7,704). Now 4-4 on the year to sit in a tie for second place in the NFC North, the Packers travel to Chicago on Sunday.
Terence Newman, CB – Minnesota Vikings
Newman, a 15-year NFL veteran in his third season with Minnesota, and the Minnesota Vikings had their bye last week. The Salina, Kansas, product has played in 211 career games – the 10th most among active NFL players and second most among defensive players – and made 201 career starts – the seventh most among active NFL players. Newman, who has 20 tackles and two pass breakups this season, now has 861 career tackles to go along with two sacks, 169 passes defended and 41 interceptions, the latter ranking second in the NFL among active players. Winners of four in a row with a 6-2 record this year to lead the NFC North, Minnesota travels to face Washington on Sunday.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
A 13-year veteran, Sproles was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 25, due to season-ending injuries sustained in Week 3. The Olathe, Kansas, native has 19,155 career all-purpose yards, which ranks first among active players and eighth in NFL history. Philadelphia picked up its seventh-straight win, a 51-23 triumph over Denver on Sunday, to enter its bye week with an NFL-leading 8-1 record.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
A second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Whitehair and the Chicago Bears were off last week. A native of Abilene, Kansas, Whitehair has started 24-straight games at center. Coming out of the bye with a 3-5 record, the Bears host Green Bay on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
Willis, a third-round pick in this year's draft, came away with two tackles – including one for a loss – in Cincinnati's 23-7 loss at Jacksonville. The player who extended K-State's Big 12-leading draft streak to 24 years, Willis has 16 tackles, 2.0 TFLs and a sack this year for the 3-5 Bengals, who are at Tennessee on Sunday.
