MANHATTAN, Kansas – The Kansas State Athletics Communication and Fan Experience and Sales departments recently received a total of eight national honors for excellence in 2016-17 from their respective organizations during the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) national convention in Orlando, Florida.

The Athletic Communications department earned four national runner-up distinctions in four categories from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) including: football poster, football game notes, women’s basketball media guide and women’s basketball game notes.

The Athletic Communications department, under the direction of Associate Athletics Director for Communications Kenny Lannou, received a total of eight accolades from CoSIDA for their outstanding publication work in 2016-17 during their annual convention, June 11-14, in Orlando. The eight honors were tied for second most in the nation in the University division and tied for the most in the Big 12 during the 2016-17 academic year.

Over the last 12 years Kansas State's publications have reached impressive heights in national judging with 29 media guides earning Top 5 national honors and 42 being named among the top three in the district.

The posters, as well as the covers for each of K-State's media guides, were produced by Graphics Designer Ron Cook. Over the last nine seasons, over 30 K-State sports posters designed by Cook have been judged among the Top 10 nationally.

The 2016 football game notes were written and designed by Assistant Director of Athletics Communications, Ryan Lackey and Lannou. The duo combined for a “Best in the Nation” honor for the 2015 football media guide, while also earning the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) “Super 11” distinction as one of the top sports information departments in the nation

The 2016-17 women's basketball media guide was written and designed by Assistant Director of Athletics Communications Randy Peterson. This was the third straight year the women’s basketball media guide has been among the top-two in the nation, earning “Best in the Nation” honors in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Peterson was also second in the nation in 2016-17 for his women’s basketball game notes in the Winter Sports Game Notes category for the second straight year.

The 2016-17 men's basketball guide finished fourth in the nation and was written and designed by Associate Director of Athletics Communications Tom Gilbert. Gilbert has finished in the top five in the nation for his men’s basketball media guides for three straight years, including a national runner-up effort in 2015-16.
