MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2017 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, CB – Atlanta Falcons
After spending his entire K-State career in addition to the preseason with the Atlanta at wide receiver, Deante Burton is now a cornerback on the Falcons' practice squad. Atlanta improved to 2-0 on the year following a 34-23 victory over Green Bay on Sunday night. The Falcons are at Detroit this Sunday.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
Finney, an undrafted rookie free agent in 2015 who is in his second year on the active roster, played on field goal protection in Pittsburgh's 26-9 home victory over Minnesota on Sunday. The 2-0 Steelers travel to face Chicago next Sunday.
Emmanuel Lamur, LB – Minnesota Vikings
A sixth-year linebacker, Lamur played in Minnesota's 26-9 loss at Pittsburgh but did not record any statistics. A second-year player for the Vikings after spending his first four seasons in Cincinnati, Lamur has 163 career tackles, a half sack, 11 passes defended and two interceptions in his career. The Vikings, who are now 1-1 on the year, play host to Tampa Bay next Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
Originally a seventh-round draft pick by Minnesota in the 2017 NFL Draft and a member of the Vikings' practice squad, Lee was signed to San Francisco's active roster and made his NFL debut in the 49ers' 12-9 loss at Seattle on Sunday. Lee play on 19 special teams plays in the game. San Francisco is now 0-2 this year and has a quick turnaround as it hosts the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night.
Tyler Lockett, WR/Returner – Seattle Seahawks
Lockett led the Seahawks with six receptions for 64 yards and returned two kickoffs for 46 yards in Seattle's 12-9 victory over San Francisco on Sunday. In two games this season, the Tulsa, Oklahoma, product has seven catches for 72 yards and has returned five kickoffs for a 27.4-yard average, the latter ranking fourth in the NFL. The 1-1 Seahawks travel to take on Tennessee on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OT – Los Angeles Rams
After spending the last three years with Detroit, Lucas was waived by the organization on Sept. 3 before signing with the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 13. He was inactive for the Rams' 27-20 home loss to Washington on Sunday. LA, now 1-1 on the year, travels to San Francisco on Thursday night.
Charmeachealle Moore, LB – Los Angeles Chargers
Moore, an undrafted rookie free agent signee by the Chargers, is on injured reserve for the 2017 season. The Chargers lost a home game to Miami, 19-17, this past Sunday to fall to 0-2 and host Kansas City next Sunday.
Jordy Nelson, WR – Green Bay Packers
Nelson, now in his 10th year in the NFL – all with Green Bay – started for the Packers but came out of the game in the first quarter due to injury in a 34-23 loss at Atlanta on Sunday night. The Riley, Kansas, product ranks third in Green Bay history in receiving touchdowns (64), fourth in catches (504) and fifth in yards (7,445). Green Bay, now 1-1 on the year, hosts Cincinnati on Sunday.
Terence Newman, CB – Minnesota Vikings
Now in his 15th season in the NFL and third with Minnesota, Newman had one tackle and one pass breakup in the Vikings' 26-9 defeat at Pittsburgh on Sunday. The Salina, Kansas, product played in his 207th career game and has now totaled 846 career tackles to go along with two sacks, 168 passes defended and 41 interceptions, the latter ranking second in the NFL among active players. Minnesota, which is now 1-1 on the season, hosts Tampa Bay next Sunday.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
Sproles, a 13th-year veteran, tallied 88 all-purpose yards for Philadelphia on Sunday but it wasn't enough as the Eagles lost at Kansas City, 27-20. The Olathe, Kansas, native caught two passes for 30 yards, rushed 10 times for 48 yards and returned a punt for 10 yards. Sproles improved his career all-purpose yards total to 19,144, which ranks first among active players and eighth in NFL history. He is just 47 yards shy of jumping from eighth to sixth in NFL history. The 1-1 Eagles host the New York Giants on Sunday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair, a second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, carded his 18th-straight start at center and played on all 64 offensive snaps in Chicago's 29-7 loss at Tampa Bay on Sunday. The Bears are in search of their first win of 2017 when they host Pittsburgh this Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
Willis made his first-career NFL start on Thursday night when he registered five tackles in Cincinnati's 13-9 home loss to Houston. A third-round pick in this year's draft to extend K-State's draft streak to a Big 12-leading 24 years, Willis has six tackles this year for the 0-2 Bengals, who travel to Green Bay on Sunday.
