MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State was picked to finish second by the league coaches in the annual Big 12 Preseason poll, as the league office concluded its annual preseason announcements on Friday.

Kansas was unanimously selected to finish first in the preseason poll for the eighth consecutive season with 81 points and nine first-place votes, while K-State received 72 points and the other first-place vote.

West Virginia was third with 61 points, TCU and Texas tied for fourth with 54 points and Iowa State (41) and Texas Tech (36) were picked sixth and seventh, respectively. The rest of the poll included Oklahoma (21) in eighth, Baylor (20) in ninth and Oklahoma State (10) in 10th.

The second-place selection was the second-highest by a K-State team in the history of the Big 12 Preseason Poll, following the 2010-11 team which was picked to finish first with 119 points and 10 first-place votes. In fact, the Wildcats have been picked to finish fifth or better on just six other occasions in the poll, including fourth in 2007-08, 2009-10 and 2014-15 and fifth in 2006-07, 2012-13 and 2013-14.

K-State returns 10 lettermen, including six players who combined to start all 37 games a season ago, for a squad that won 25 games for just the sixth time in school history and advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in eight years. The Wildcats have earned a number of Preseason Top 25 rankings, including No. 11 by Yahoo! Sports, Street & Smith's, Lindy's and Athlon and No. 12 by ESPN.com and CBSSports.com.

On Wednesday, senior forward Dean Wade became the second Wildcat to ever be selected as the Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year by the league coaches, while Wade and fellow senior Barry Brown, Jr., were named to the league's Preseason All-Big 12 team. Wade was the lone player to be a unanimous selection.

In addition, Brown and Wade were named to the watch lists for the Player of the Year awards in each of their respective position categories, including Brown for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year and Wade for the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year honors.
