MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2018 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, CB – Atlanta Falcons
Spending time on both Atlanta's and Green Bay's active roster this year, Burton has since been signed back to the Falcons practice squad, a place he resided all last year. Atlanta improved to 3-4 this season with a 23-20 Monday-night win over the New York Giants, a game that precedes its bye week.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
Finney, an undrafted rookie free agent signee in 2015 who is in his third year on the active roster, and the Pittsburgh Steelers were off Week 7. A product of Andale, Kansas, who has played in 33 career games, Finney has started nine games in his career, including two this year. Pittsburgh, 3-2-1 on the year, hosts Cleveland on Sunday.
Emmanuel Lamur, LB – Oakland Raiders
A seventh-year linebacker, Lamur and the Oakland Raiders enjoyed their bye last week. Lamur has played in 77 career games with 18 starts, and he has totaled 190 career tackles. The Raiders, who are 1-5 this year, take on Indianapolis on Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
Lee, a second-year player, made one tackle among his 10 defensive snaps while also playing on 27 special teams plays in San Francisco's 39-10 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Lee has played in 21 career games with 22 tackles, 18 of which have come this year. San Francisco is now 1-6 this year and travels to take on Arizona on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR/Returner – Seattle Seahawks
A fourth-year pro, Lockett and the Seattle Seahawks were off last week. The Tulsa, Oklahoma, native has 23 receptions for 360 yards and five touchdowns this year, the latter being one shy of his career high (2015) and tied for seventh in the league. Seattle, 3-3 on the year, travels to face Detroit on Sunday.
Matt McCrane, PK – Oakland Raiders
After spending the preseason with the Arizona Cardinals, McCrane was signed by Oakland three weeks ago, and the Raiders were off during Week 7. McCrane, who made an overtime game-winning field goal in his first-career game against Cleveland, is 5-of-9 on field goals this year and is 5-for-5 on extra points. Oakland, 1-5 this season, hosts Indianapolis on Sunday.
Jordy Nelson, WR – Oakland Raiders
An 11th-year veteran who is in his first season with Oakland, Nelson and the Raiders were off last week. The Riley, Kansas, product has 22 catches for 333 yards and three touchdowns this year for the 1-5 Raiders. Oakland hosts Indianapolis on Sunday.
Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs
An undrafted rookie free agent this past spring, Pringle was placed on injured reserve prior to the season. He finished the preseason with six receptions for 147 yards, including a four-catch, 122-yard effort in the final preseason game against Green Bay. His game against the Packers also included a 47-yard kickoff return. Kansas City improved to 6-1 this season with a 45-10 Sunday-night victory over Cincinnati, and the Chiefs host Denver on Sunday.
D.J. Reed, DB – San Francisco 49ers
Reed, a fifth-round draft pick by San Francisco in this year's draft, made a career-high seven tackles – including six stops among his 30 defensive snaps – in the 49ers' 39-10 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Reed, who also played on 10 special-teams plays, has a 30.2-yard kickoff return average this year to rank fifth in the league. The 49ers dropped to 1-6 this year and travel to Arizona on Sunday.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
In the midst of his 14th NFL season, Sproles was inactive for Philadelphia's 21-17 home loss to Carolina. The Olathe, Kansas, native has 19,216 career all-purpose yards to rank sixth in NFL history and first among active players. Now 3-4 on the year, Philadelphia travels to London, England, to face Jacksonville on Sunday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair, a second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, made his 38th-straight start and 37th at center in Chicago's 38-31 home loss to New England. The Abilene, Kansas, product played on all 82 offensive snaps. The Bears are now 3-3 this season and host the New York Jets on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
A third-round pick in last year's draft, Willis came away with two tackles among his 26 defensive plays and eight special-teams reps in Cincinnati's 45-10 loss at Kansas City. The loss dropped the Bengals to 4-3, and they host Tampa Bay on Sunday.
