Risner Named Finalist for 2018 Senior CLASS Award
Oct 24, 2018 | Football
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State senior offensive lineman Dalton Risner, who has already received multiple honors involving community service this season, was named one of 10 finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced Wednesday.
Risner is the third Wildcat to be named a finalist for the award, joining Collin Klein (2012) and Tyler Lockett (2014).
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I FBS senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 candidates announced earlier in the season. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote at www.seniorCLASSaward.com through December 5. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches' votes to determine the winner. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the football bowl season in early January.
Risner, a native of Wiggins, Colorado, has made an impact on those in the Manhattan and surrounding communities in multiple ways. Holding a 3.603 GPA, the 2017 First Team All-American started the RiseUp Foundation with its mission to "encourage everyone to RISE above the evil and sin in this world and be a positive shining light in the lives of others." The ultimate goal for the foundation is to motivate people through his words and actions, through his stories and his relationships.
He also visits Buttonwood Special Needs Home and has bonded with one member in particular, Mike, while he is a Big Brother to Kayden, who was battling leukemia but is in remission. Risner is also a speaker at local schools, and those speeches center around dreaming big and accomplishing goals. He visits Camp Hope each summer to spend time, sign autographs and give speeches to children who are battling cancer. Risner also takes the time to send notes message and signed memorabilia to people – both young and old – battling various difficulties in life.
Kansas State travels to face eighth-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday in a 2:30 p.m., contest inside Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. The game will be shown nationally on FOX.
