Oct 29, 2018 | Women's Golf
DALLAS, Texas– Kansas State sophomore Ella Adams had a strong performance on Monday as she carded a 2-over par 146 during the first two rounds of the Trinity Forest Invitational at the par-72, 6,372-yard Trinity Forest Golf Club.
Adams, who is tied for fifth place, is only five strokes off the individual leader entering final-round play on Tuesday. She led the Wildcats to a 36-hole score of 27-over par 603 to enter Tuesday's final round in eighth place. K-State was in fifth place after a first-round score of 7-over par 295 but fell three spots during round two.
Senior Chloe Weir joins Adams in the top 20 as she carded team-best score of even-par 72 during round one and a 5-over par 77 in the second round. She enters the final round tied in 20th at 5-over par 149.
"We had a good first round," head coach Kristi Knight said. "Chloe and Ella played steady. I am also proud of Reid (Isaac) and Briony (Bayles); they both got off to a poor start by going 3-over on their first two holes. They both showed a lot of grit.
"We had some big numbers that cost us," Knight continued. "There is still more positive to take out of today even with a high score in the second round. The team hit a lot of good shots and all the ladies competed hard. We can make up some ground tomorrow and we want to finish strong."
A product of Adelaide, Australia, Adams carded a 1-over par 73 during both rounds. In the first 18, Adams carded three birdies and four bogeys, but she was steadier in the second round with a pair of birdies, a bogey and a double.
Isaac is at 11-over par 155 and to enter the final round in a tie for 44th place. Following Isaac is Bayles, who is tied for 50th after carding a 13-over par 157. Rounding out the Wildcat effort is sophomore Niamh McSherry at 14-over par 158 to sit in a tie for 52nd.
Illinois tops the team leaderboard with an impressive 3-under par 573 on Monday. The Fighting Illini have a seven-stroke lead over second-place Tennessee. Crystal Wang of Illinois sits atop the individual leaderboard after carding a 3-under par 141. She holds a single-stroke lead over teammate Bing Singhsumalee in addition to Mikayla Bardwell of Tennessee.
The Trinity Forest Invitational will conclude Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Live results can be followed at www.golfstat.com
