Sep 18, 2018 | Football
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2018 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 11 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, CB – Green Bay Packers
Burton, who played week one for Atlanta, was cut by the Falcons last week and quickly picked up by Green Bay. The Manhattan, Kansas, product was inactive for the Packers' 29-29 tie against Minnesota, and they travel to face Washington on Sunday.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
An undrafted rookie free agent signee by Pittsburgh in 2015 who is in his third year on the active roster, Finney made his eighth career start and first at right guard in Pittsburgh's 42-37 home loss to Kansas City. A product of Andale, Kansas, Finney played on all 82 offensive snaps in his 29th career game. The 0-1-1 Steelers travel to face Tampa Bay on Monday.
Emmanuel Lamur, LB – Oakland Raiders
Lamur, a seventh-year linebacker, started at linebacker and made one tackle among his 14 defensive snaps and eight special teams plays in the Raiders' 20-19 last-minute loss at Denver. The start was the 16th of his career and first since starting two games for Cincinnati in 2015. The 0-2 Raiders travel to take on Miami on Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
A second-year player, Lee made his first-career start a good one as he tallied 12 tackles – including a 10-yard sack in which he forced a fumble that was recovered by San Francisco – in the 49ers' 30-27 home win over Detroit. Lee, who played in 72 of the 77 defensive snaps in addition to 13 special-teams plays, obliterated his previous career high in tackles, which was four in week one. San Francisco, which is 1-1 on the year, travels to face Kansas City on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR/Returner – Seattle Seahawks
Lockett was Seattle's top receiver on Monday night as he hauled in five catches for 60 yards with a 19-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as the Seahawks fell at Chicago, 24-17. The fourth-year pro, who also returned a punt 14 yards against the Bears, now has eight receptions for 119 yards and two touchdowns this season, the latter mark equaling his total from last year. Seattle, 0-2 on the year, hosts Dallas on Sunday.
Jordy Nelson, WR – Oakland Raiders
Nelson, an 11-year veteran who is in his first season with Oakland, made two catches for 30 yards and returned a punt seven yards in Oakland's 20-17 loss at Denver. Nelson, who spent his first 10 NFL seasons in Green Bay, returned a punt for the first time since doing so 17 times in the 2009 season. Oakland, which is 0-2 on the year, will travel to face Miami on Sunday.
Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs
Pringle, an undrafted rookie free agent this past spring, was placed on injured reserve prior to the season. He finished the preseason with six receptions for 147 yards, including a four-catch, 122-yard effort in the final preseason game against Green Bay. His game against the Packers also included a 47-yard kickoff return. The 2-0 Chiefs will have their home opener on Sunday against San Francisco.
D.J. Reed, DB – San Francisco 49ers
A fifth-round draft pick by San Francisco in this year's draft, Reed returned four kickoffs for 159 yards – including a 90-yard return – in the 49ers' 30-27 home win over Detroit. Reed long return was actually a 101-yard touchdown but was brought back to the 26-yard line due to a late facemask penalty. It was his first time returning kickoffs this season, and his 39.8-yard average this season ranks second in the NFL. Reed, whose selection by San Francisco in April extended K-State's Big 12-leading streak to 25-straight years with an NFL Draft pick, and the 1-1 49ers travel to face Kansas City on Sunday.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
Sproles, in his 14th NFL season, was inactive for Philadelphia's 27-21 road loss at Tampa Bay. The Olathe, Kansas, native has 19,216 career all-purpose yards to rank sixth in NFL history and first among active players. The 1-1 Eagles host Indianapolis on Sunday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
A second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Whitehair notched his 34th-straight start and 33rd overall at center in Chicago's 24-17 Monday-night win over Seattle. The Abilene, Kansas, native played on all 66 offensive snaps and also recorded a tackle on an interception. The 1-1 Bears travel to face Arizona on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
Willis, a third-round pick in last year's draft, registered a tackle, pass breakup and fumble recovery in Cincinnati's 34-23 Thursday-night win at Baltimore. The 2-0 Bengals travel to face Carolina on Sunday.
