MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2019 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, DB – Indianapolis Colts
Originally entering the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent by Atlanta in 2017, Burton is a member of the Colts' practice squad. Indianapolis, which is 3-2 this year, was off last week and hosts Houston on Sunday.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
Finney, an undrafted rookie free agent signee by Pittsburgh in 2015, played on one offensive snap and four special teams plays in Pittsburgh's 24-17 win at the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night. The Steelers, who improved to 2-4, are off next week.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
Lee, a native of Blue Springs, Missouri, is on San Francisco's practice squad. The 49ers remained undefeated with a 20-7 win at the Los Angeles Rams, improving to 5-0 on the season. One of just two undefeated teams remaining, San Francisco travels to face Washington on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR – Seattle Seahawks
In his fifth NFL season, Lockett registered a team-high five receptions for 75 yards in addition to returning a kickoff 21 yards and rushing once for three yards in Seattle's 32-28 victory at Cleveland. Lockett ranks 12th in the league with 454 receiving yards, while his three touchdown receptions are tied for 15th. Now 5-1 on the season to sit a half game back of San Francisco, Seattle hosts Baltimore on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OL – Chicago Bears
Lucas, a fifth-year veteran, and the Chicago Bears were off last week. The Bears, who are 3-2, host New Orleans on Sunday.
Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs
Pringle, an undrafted rookie free agent prior to the 2018 season, hauled in a pair of passes for 24 yards in Kansas City's 31-24 loss to Houston. The Chiefs fell to 4-2 on the season and have a quick turnaround as they travel to face Denver on Thursday.
D.J. Reed, DB – San Francisco 49ers
Reed, a fifth-round pick by San Francisco in last year's draft, had one tackle among his 20 defensive snaps and 10 special teams plays in San Francisco's 20-7 win at the Los Angeles Rams. One of two undefeated teams in the NFL through six weeks of play, the 49ers travel to take on Washington on Sunday.
Dalton Risner, OL – Denver Broncos
A second-round selection by Denver in this year's draft, Risner started at left guard and played on all 62 offensive snaps in the Broncos' 16-0 shutout win over Tennessee. Risner has now played on all 394 offensive snaps for Denver this season. Winners of two in a row, the Broncos host Kansas City on Thursday night.
Duke Shelley, DB – Chicago Bears
Shelley, a sixth-round pick in this year's draft, and the Chicago Bears were idle last week. The 3-2 Bears come out of the bye week by hosting New Orleans on Sunday.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
Sproles, who is in his 15th NFL season, was inactive for Philadelphia's 38-20 loss at Minnesota. The Olathe, Kansas, native ranks fifth in NFL history and first among active players in career all-purpose yards, a mark that now stands at 19,684. The Eagles fell to 3-3 on the season prior to traveling to Dallas to face the Cowboys on Sunday night.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair, who has started 53-consecutive games, and the Chicago Bears were off last week. A native of Abilene, Kansas, Whitehair has been in for all 322 offensive plays for Chicago this season. The Bears, 3-2 this year, host New Orleans on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – New York Jets
Willis played on 17 defensive snaps and six special teams plays in New York's 24-22 victory over Dallas. Willis, who began his third season with Cincinnati this year but was waived and quickly claimed by the Jets, has now played in back-to-back weeks. New York picked up its first win of the season and will host New England on Monday night.
