Oct 27, 2019 | Baseball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State's pitching staff held Oral Roberts scoreless while recording 17 strikeouts over its 12-inning fall exhibition game Sunday, as the Wildcats claimed a 9-0 victory at Tointon Family Stadium.
"Solid pitching and defense against one of the most consistent winners in our region," said head coach Pete Hughes. "Error-free baseball for nine innings and 17 strikeouts without allowing a run through 12 innings is a productive day for our program. Eleven pitchers contributed today, I am extremely happy with the depth of our staff."
Eleven different Wildcat pitchers helped combine for the shutout of the Golden Eagles, who have qualified for the NCAA Tournament four times in the last five seasons and 28 times in their history. Redshirt sophomore Carson Seymour got his second straight fall start, striking out two with one hit allowed in two innings.
Jordan Wicks, the 2019 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, struck out two batters and did not allow a baserunner in his inning of work. Senior Kasey Ford and junior Jaxon Passino each tossed a perfect innings.
Brett Lockwood (2), Eric Torres (2), Zak Herbers (3) and Caleb Littlejim (2) each tallied multiple strikeouts in their respective inning of relief.
Through nine innings, K-State pitchers yielded just three hits and three walks while striking out 12.
The Cats led 4-0 after four innings, as Chris Ceballos and Littlejim each drove in a run and Dylan Phillips picked up two hits with an RBI.
Junior Kamron Willman had two hits and scored a run while sophomore Daniel Carinci tripled and scored in the game. Freshman Dom Hughes roped an RBI double in the sixth inning.
K-State's annual three-game intrasquad Fall World Series will take place November 8-10. Following the final game of the Fall World Series, players and staff will participate in their annual "Shave for the Brave" event, where they will cut their hair in support of children's cancer research and raise funds to benefit the organization Vs. Cancer.
With the ongoing improvements being made to Tointon Family Stadium, fans are asked to enter the stadium near Brandeberry Indoor Complex and follow marked signs to the seating area down the first base line.
