MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State junior quarterback Skylar Thompson was honored with a pair of awards following the Wildcats' 48-41 upset win over No. 5 Oklahoma on Saturday.
Thompson is one of eight quarterbacks in the nation to be named a "Star of the Week" by the Manning Award, while he was named to the Davey O'Brien Award's "Great 8" list.
A native of Independence, Missouri, Thompson is now in the running to be named the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week based off a fan vote through Thursday morning. Fans can vote for Thompson via Facebook or by clicking here.
Thompson became the second quarterback in school history to log two career victories over top-10 teams as he also led the Wildcats to a win at No. 10 Oklahoma State in 2017. He rushed for four touchdowns last Saturday against the Sooners, the second most by any player in the nation this season and tied for the second most for a single game in school history. He also threw for 213 yards on 18-of-28 aim with three of his completions going for third-down conversions of over 10 yards and another one to convert a fourth-down attempt.
After falling behind 17-7, Thompson and the Wildcats outscored the Sooners 41-6 over a nearly 35-minute stretch to take control of the game. For his efforts, he helped the Wildcats earn National Team of the Week honors from the Football Writers Association of America.
No. 22 Kansas State travels east to Lawrence to take on Kansas in the 117th edition of the Dillons Sunflower Showdown on Saturday, a game that kicks at 2:30 p.m., and will air on FS1.
Following a road trip to Texas on November 9, the Wildcats return home to face West Virginia on November 16. Tickets to the game can be purchased online at www.kstatesports.com/tickets, by phone at 1-800-221-CATS or at the main ticket office inside Bramlage Coliseum.
