MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2019 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, DB – Indianapolis Colts
Burton, who originally entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent by Atlanta in 2017, is a member of the Colts' practice squad. Indianapolis earned a 15-13 home win over Denver to improve to 5-2 on the year. The Colts travel to face Pittsburgh on Sunday.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
Finney, an undrafted rookie free agent signee by Pittsburgh in 2015, was in on 38 offensive snaps at left guard and six special teams plays in Pittsburgh's 27-14 Monday-night home win over Miami. The Steelers improved to 3-4 on the year and host Indianapolis on Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
Lee, a native of Blue Springs, Missouri, is on San Francisco's practice squad. The 49ers improved to 7-0 this year with a 51-13 win at Carolina. One of just two undefeated teams remaining, San Francisco hosts Arizona on Thursday night.
Tyler Lockett, WR – Seattle Seahawks
In his fifth NFL season, Lockett registered six catches for 100 yards and returned a kickoff 21 yards in Seattle's 27-20 victory at Atlanta. It was Lockett's sixth career 100-yard game and the second this year. He is tied for 12th in the league with in receiving yards (615), while he is tied for 15th in touchdowns (4). Seattle improved to 6-2 on the season, and it hosts Tampa Bay on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OL – Chicago Bears
Lucas, a fifth-year veteran, saw action on 17 offensive snaps and six special teams plays in Chicago's 17-16 home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Bears fell to 3-4 on the year, and they travel to face Philadelphia on Sunday.
Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs
Pringle, an undrafted rookie free agent prior to the 2018 season, saw time on 17 special teams plays in Kansas City's 31-24 Sunday-night home loss to Green Bay. The Chiefs, who fell to 5-3 on the year, still lead the AFC West prior to hosting Minnesota on Sunday.
D.J. Reed, DB – San Francisco 49ers
Reed, a fifth-round pick by San Francisco in last year's draft, was in for 14 defensive snaps and 18 special teams plays in the 49ers' 51-13 victory at Carolina on Sunday. One of two undefeated teams in the NFL through eight weeks of play, the 7-0 49ers host Arizona on Thursday night.
Dalton Risner, OL – Denver Broncos
A second-round selection by Denver in this year's draft, Risner started at left guard and played on all 73 offensive snaps in the Broncos' 15-13 loss at Indianapolis. Risner has now played on all 534 offensive snaps for Denver this season. The Broncos fell to 2-6 on the year and host Cleveland on Sunday.
Duke Shelley, DB – Chicago Bears
Shelley, a sixth-round pick in this year's draft, was inactive for Chicago's 17-16 home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The loss dropped the Bears to 3-4 this season prior traveling to face Philadelphia on Sunday.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
Sproles, who is in the midst of his 15th NFL season, was inactive for Philadelphia's 31-13 victory at Buffalo. The Olathe, Kansas, native ranks fifth in NFL history and first among active players in career all-purpose yards, a mark that now stands at 19,684. The Eagles evened its record at 4-4 this season – a half game behind Dallas – and they host Chicago on Sunday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Starting his 55th-consecutive game, Whitehair was in on all 82 offensive snaps and made a tackle on an interception in Chicago's 17-16 home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. A native of Abilene, Kansas, Whitehair has been in for all 469 offensive plays for Chicago this season. Chicago fell to 3-4 on the year travels to face Philadelphia on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – New York Jets
Willis made three tackles – including a sack and a forced fumble – among his 25 defensive snaps and one special teams play in the Jets' 29-15 loss at Jacksonville. Willis began his third season with Cincinnati this year but was waived and quickly claimed by the Jets. New York, now 1-6 this season, travels to face Miami on Sunday.
