MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2019 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, DB – Indianapolis Colts
A player who originally entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent wide receiver by Atlanta in 2017, Burton is a member of the Colts' practice squad. The Colts picked up a 33-13 victory over Jacksonville to improve to 6-4 this season, tied for the top mark in the AFC South. Indianapolis travels to face the team it's tied with the standings – Houston – on Thursday night.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
An undrafted rookie free agent signee by Pittsburgh in 2015, Finney saw time on one offensive snap and two special teams plays in Pittsburgh's 21-7 Thursday-night loss at Cleveland. The setback evened the Steelers' record at 5-5 prior to its trip to Cincinnati on Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
A native of Blue Springs, Missouri, Lee made his sixth career start and first of the 2019 season when he started the game at WLB in San Francisco's 36-26 home win over Arizona. He made a pair of tackles, including one for loss, among his 25 defensive snaps and 22 special teams plays. San Francisco is now 9-1 on the year and hosts Green Bay on Sunday night.
Tyler Lockett, WR – Seattle Seahawks
In his fifth NFL season, Lockett and the Seattle Seahawks were off last week. Through 10 weeks of play, Lockett is tied for seventh in the NFL with six touchdowns and ranks 13th with 793 receiving yards. Seattle, which holds an 8-2 record to sit a game back in the NFC West standings, travels to face Philadelphia on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OL – Chicago Bears
A fifth-year veteran, Lucas played on 20 offensive snaps and three special teams plays on Chicago's 17-7 Sunday-night loss at the Los Angeles Rams. The Bears fell to 4-6 on the year and host the New York Giants on Sunday.
Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs
An undrafted rookie free agent prior to the 2018 season, Pringle made one catch for nine yards and recorded the tackle on the opening kickoff in Kansas City's 24-17 Monday-night win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Mexico City. The Tampa, Florida, native was in for 11 offensive snaps and also saw time on 18 special teams plays. The Chiefs improved to 7-4 on the year, a half game ahead of Oakland in the AFC West, and they are off this week.
D.J. Reed, DB – San Francisco 49ers
A fifth-round pick by San Francisco in last year's draft, Reed carded a pair of tackles, a forced fumble and returned a fumble for a touchdown as time expired in San Francisco's 36-26 home win over Arizona. The fumble return came on one of his three defensive snaps, while he also saw time on eight special teams plays. Leading the NFC West with a 9-1 record, the 49ers host Green Bay on Sunday night.
Dalton Risner, OL – Denver Broncos
A second-round selection, Risner played on 80 offensive snaps – missing just one due to an injury – in Denver's 27-23 loss at Minnesota. Risner has seen time on 664 of the Broncos' 665 offensive snaps this year. Denver, now 3-7 this season, stays on the road to face Buffalo on Sunday.
Duke Shelley, DB – Chicago Bears
A sixth-round pick in this year's draft, Shelley was inactive for Chicago's 17-7 loss at the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night. The Bears fell to 4-6 on the year prior to hosting the New York Giants on Sunday.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
In his 15th NFL season, Sproles was placed on injured reserve on November 15. The Olathe, Kansas, native ranks fifth in NFL history and first among active players in career all-purpose yards (19,696). Philadelphia suffered a 17-10 loss to New England to fall to 5-5, and the Eagles host Seattle on Sunday.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair started his 58th-consecutive game and second this season at center in Chicago's 17-7 loss Sunday night at the Los Angeles Rams. Whitehair played on all 76 offensive snaps as the Abilene, Kansas, native pushed his season snap total to 647. Chicago fell to 4-6 on the year and hosts the New York Giants on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – New York Jets
Willis was inactive for the Jets' 34-17 win at Washington. He began his third season with Cincinnati this year but was waived and quickly claimed by the Jets. Improving to 3-7 this season, New York hosts Oakland on Sunday.
