MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2019 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, DB – Indianapolis Colts
Burton, who originally entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent by Atlanta in 2017, is a member of the Colts' practice squad. The Colts lost, 26-24, at Pittsburgh to fall to 5-3 this season, and they host Miami on Sunday.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
An undrafted rookie free agent signee by Pittsburgh in 2015, Finney started at left guard and played on all 63 offensive snaps in Pittsburgh's 26-24 win over Indianapolis. It was Finney's 10th career start and first since week three last year. The Steelers have now won three-straight to even their record and 4-4, and they host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
A native of Blue Springs, Missouri, Lee is on San Francisco's practice squad. The 49ers are the lone unbeaten team in the NFL following a 28-25 victory at Arizona on Thursday night. San Francisco, 8-0 on the season, hosts Seattle on Monday night.
Tyler Lockett, WR – Seattle Seahawks
Lockett, in his fifth NFL season, had a banner day as he caught 13 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns to help Seattle earn a 40-34 win over Tampa Bay. His 13 catches were a career high, while it was his seventh career 100-yard game and the first time he had consecutive 100-yard outputs after totaling 100 yards last week at Atlanta. He also became the first Seahawk in 24 years to have a 150-yard, two-touchdown game. With the effort, Lockett is now four in the NFL in receiving yards (767) and tied for third in touchdowns (6). Seattle improved to 7-2 on the season, and it travels to face 8-0 San Francisco on Monday night.
Cornelius Lucas, OL – Chicago Bears
A fifth-year veteran, Lucas was in for seven offensive snaps and a pair of special teams plays in Chicago's 22-14 loss at Philadelphia. The Bears, who have dropped four-straight games, are now 3-5 on the year and host Detroit on Sunday.
Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs
An undrafted rookie free agent prior to the 2018 season, Pringle was in for 23 special teams plays and made a tackle on a punt in Kansas City's 26-23 last-second win over Minnesota. The Chiefs improved to an AFC West-leading 6-3 record on the year, and they travel to face Tennessee on Sunday.
D.J. Reed, DB – San Francisco 49ers
A fifth-round pick by San Francisco in last year's draft, Reed saw time on four special teams plays in the 49ers' 28-25 road victory on Thursday night at Arizona. San Francisco, the lone unbeaten team in the NFL at 8-0, hosts Seattle on Monday night.
Dalton Risner, OL – Denver Broncos
Risner, a second-round selection by Denver in this year's draft, started at left guard and played on all 50 offensive snaps in the Broncos' 24-19 home win over Cleveland. Risner has now played on all 584 offensive snaps for Denver this season. The Broncos, who improved to 3-6 this season, are off this week
Duke Shelley, DB – Chicago Bears
A sixth-round pick in this year's draft, Shelley was inactive for Chicago's 22-14 loss at Philadelphia on Sunday, the Bears' fourth-consecutive loss. Chicago is now 3-5 this season and host Detroit on Sunday.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
In the midst of his 15th NFL season, Sproles rushed twice for seven yards, caught one pass for three yards and return a pair of punts for two yards in Philadelphia's 22-14 home win over Chicago. The Olathe, Kansas, native ranks fifth in NFL history and first among active players in career all-purpose yards, a mark that now stands at 19,696. Winners of two in a row, the Eagles are now 5-4 this year as they enter their bye week.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair, who started his 56th-consecutive game, played on all 45 offensive snaps in Chicago's 22-14 loss at Philadelphia. A native of Abilene, Kansas, Whitehair has been in for all 514 offensive plays for Chicago this season. Chicago lost its fourth-straight game to fall to 3-5 on the year, and the Bears host Detroit on Sunday.
Jordan Willis, DE – New York Jets
Willis was in for six defensive snaps in New York's 26-18 loss at Miami. Willis began his third season with Cincinnati this year but was waived and quickly claimed by the Jets. The Jets, now 1-7 host the New York Giants on Sunday.
