MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2019 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 12 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
Deante Burton, DB – Dallas Cowboys
A member of the Colts practice squad for over a month, Burton was signed to the Dallas Cowboys' active roster on November 20. He has suited up for the last two games but has not seen any playing time. Dallas suffered a 26-15 loss to Buffalo on Thanksgiving Day, and the 6-6 Cowboys travel to face Chicago on Thursday night.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
An undrafted rookie free agent signee by Pittsburgh in 2015, Finney made his 12th career start and third of the season when he lined up at center in Pittsburgh's 20-13 win over Cleveland. Finney was in for all 62 offensive snaps in addition to four special teams plays. The Steelers improved to 7-5 this year – the second-best mark in the AFC North – and they travel to face Arizona on Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
A native of Blue Springs, Missouri, Lee saw time on 16 special teams plays in San Francisco's 20-17 last-second loss at Baltimore. The defeat dropped the 49ers to 10-2 on the season, tied with Seattle for first place in the NFC West. San Francisco travels to face New Orleans on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR – Seattle Seahawks
In his fifth NFL season, Lockett started at receiver but did not make a catch among his three targets in Seattle's 37-30 Monday-night win over Minnesota. With the win, the Seahawks are now tied with San Francisco for the top mark in the NFC West at 10-2. Seattle travels to face the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night.
Cornelius Lucas, OL – Chicago Bears
A fifth-year veteran, Lucas made his fourth start of the season and 12th of his career when he lined up at right tackle and played on all 65 offensive snaps in Chicago's 24-20 Thanksgiving Day win at Detroit. The Bears evened their record at 6-6, and they host Dallas on Thursday night.
Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs
An undrafted rookie free agent prior to the 2018 season, Pringle made a tackle on kickoff coverage among his 14 special teams plays – and he also played on five offensive snaps – in Kansas City's 40-9 rout over Oakland. The Chiefs improved to 8-4 on the year to hold a two-game lead over the Raiders in the AFC West, and they travel to face New England on Sunday.
D.J. Reed, DB – San Francisco 49ers
A fifth-round pick by San Francisco in last year's draft, Reed saw time on six special teams plays in the 49ers' 20-17 last-second loss at Baltimore. The defeated dropped the 49ers into a tie for the NFC West lead at 10-2, and San Francisco travels to face New Orleans on Sunday.
Dalton Risner, OL – Denver Broncos
A second-round selection, Risner played on all 57 offensive snaps in Denver's 23-20 last-second win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Risner has seen time on 771 of the Broncos' 772 offensive snaps this year. Denver, now 4-8 this season, travels to face Houston on Sunday.
Duke Shelley, DB – Chicago Bears
A sixth-round pick in this year's draft, Shelley played in his fifth game during his rookie season as he was in for three special teams plays in Chicago's 24-20 Thanksgiving Day win at Detroit. The Bears, now 6-6 this season, host Dallas on Thursday night.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
In his 15th NFL season, Sproles was placed on injured reserve on November 15. The Olathe, Kansas, native ranks fifth in NFL history and first among active players in career all-purpose yards (19,696). Philadelphia lost at Miami, 37-31, to fall to 5-7 on the year, and the Eagles host the New York Giants on Monday night.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair started his 60th-consecutive game and fourth this season at center, helping Chicago pick up a 24-20 Thanksgiving Day win at Detroit. Whitehair played on all 65 offensive snaps as the Abilene, Kansas, native pushed his season snap total to 788. Now 6-6 on the year, Chicago will play again on Thursday as it hosts Dallas.
Jordan Willis, DE – New York Jets
Willis, who began his third NFL season with Cincinnati this year but was waived and quickly claimed by the Jets, made a pair of tackles against his former team in the Jets' 22-6 loss at Cincinnati on Sunday. New York, now 4-8 this season, hosts Miami on Sunday.
