SAN JOSE, Calif. – Kansas State seniors Barry Brown, Jr., and Dean Wade were each selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 8 team on Thursday.
Brown was named to the First Team, along with Kansas' Dedric Lawson, Iowa State's Marial Shayok, Texas Tech's Jarrett Culver and Baylor's Makai Mason, while Wade was selected to the Second Team, along with TCU's Alex Robinson, Texas' Kerwin Roach, Oklahoma's Christian James and Texas' Jaxson Hayes.
Brown and Wade are the first Wildcat tandem to be selected for All-District honors in the same season since Rodney McGruder (first team) and Angel Rodriguez (second team) in 2013. Overall, the duo is the first to earn All-District honors since Marcus Foster in 2014.
The honor is just the latest in a long list of accolades for Brown and Wade, as the duo were also selected to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-District 7 Team after earning All-Big 12 First Team honors from both the league coaches and The Associated Press on March 13.
The school's all-time leader in both games played (138) and steals (253), Brown led the Wildcats in nearly every statistical category, including scoring (14.9 ppg.), double-digit scoring games (28), 20-point games (seven), field goals made (182) and attempted (416), free throws made (88) and attempted (124) and steals (64). He connected on 43.8 percent from the field, including 29.9 percent from 3-point range, and shot 71 percent from the line.
Wade proved to one of the most valuable players in the Big 12, as the Wildcats went 20-5 in games in which he played, including 13-2 in league action. He averaged 12.9 points on 49.2 percent (122-of-248) shooting, including 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from 3-point range, and 78.9 percent (56-of-71) from the free throw line to go with a team-best 6.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 30.4 minutes per game. He ranked second on the team in scoring, double-digit scoring games (19) and 20-point games (four).
K-State (25-8, 14-4 Big 12) will play Big West regular-season and tournament champion UC Irvine (30-5, 15-1 Big West) at 1 p.m., CT (11 a.m. PT) on Friday in the first round of the NCAA South Regional at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The game will air nationally on TBS.
