MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the 2019 season, k-statesports.com recaps the action for the 11 former Kansas State football players currently in the NFL.
B.J. Finney, OL – Pittsburgh Steelers
An undrafted rookie free agent signee by Pittsburgh in 2015 who is in his fourth year on the active roster, Finney saw time on 14 offensive snaps and one special teams play in the Steelers' 33-3 setback at New England. Pittsburgh will try to bounce back by hosting Seattle on Sunday.
Elijah Lee, LB – San Francisco 49ers
A native of Blue Springs, Missouri, Lee is on the 49ers' practice squad. San Francisco won at Tampa Bay, 31-10, and the 49ers stay on the road to face the Bengals in Cincinnati on Sunday.
Tyler Lockett, WR – Seattle Seahawks
Lockett, now in his fifth NFL season, only caught one pass in the season opener, but he made it count as it was a 44-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that gave the Seahawks the lead in a 21-20 Seattle victory. He now has at least one touchdown reception of 40 yards or longer in all five seasons of his career. Seattle travels hits the road for the first time this year as it travels to Pittsburgh on Sunday.
Cornelius Lucas, OL – Chicago Bears
A fifth-year veteran, Lucas played on three special teams plays in Chicago's 10-3 loss to Green Bay in the first game of the NFL season on Thursday. The Bears hit the road to face Denver on Sunday.
Byron Pringle, WR – Kansas City Chiefs
An undrafted rookie free agent prior to the 2018 season, Pringle saw action for the first time in a regular-season game in Kansas City's 40-26 victory at Jacksonville. The Tampa, Florida, product saw time on three offensive snaps and 17 special teams plays. The Chiefs will stay on the road in Week 2 as they travel to face Oakland on Sunday.
D.J. Reed, DB – San Francisco 49ers
A fifth-round draft pick by San Francisco in last year's draft, Reed saw time on eight special teams plays as the 49ers won at Tampa Bay, 31-10. San Francisco travels to face Cincinnati on Sunday.
Dalton Risner, OL – Denver Broncos
Risner, a second-round selection by Denver in this year's draft, earned the start at left guard in his first NFL game, a 24-16 loss at Oakland on Monday night. The player who extended K-State's Big 12-leading NFL Draft streak to 26-consecutive years, Risner played on all 64 offensive snaps and five special teams plays. The Broncos will look to bounce back as they host Chicago on Sunday.
Duke Shelley, DB – Chicago Bears
A sixth-round pick in this year's draft by Chicago, Shelley played in his first NFL game on Thursday as he saw action on 10 special teams plays and three defensive snaps in the Bears' 10-3 loss to Green Bay. Chicago travels to Denver on Sunday.
Darren Sproles, RB/Returner – Philadelphia Eagles
Beginning his 15th NFL season, Sproles started and rushed nine times for 47 yards, caught three passes for 16 yards and returned four punts for 46 yards in Philadelphia's 32-27 comeback win over Washington. Sproles also ran in a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter. The Olathe, Kansas, native improved his career all-purpose yardage total to 19,629 to rank sixth in NFL history and first among active players. He needs just 54 yards to move into the top five in NFL history. The Eagles travel to face Atlanta on Sunday night.
Cody Whitehair, OL – Chicago Bears
Whitehair, a second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft who earned a contract extension prior to the season, registered his 49th-consecutive start in Chicago's 10-3 Thursday-night setback against Green Bay, a game in which the Abilene, Kansas, product played on all 73 offensive snaps. The Bears hit the road for the first time this as they travel to Denver.
Jordan Willis, DE – Cincinnati Bengals
A third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Willis was inactive for the Bengals' 21-20 loss at Seattle. Cincinnati hosts San Francisco on Sunday.
