Maffei, Gheorghita Pick Up Wins on Final Day at SMU Invitational

DALLAS, Texas. – The Kansas State women's tennis team secured wins on the final day of the SMU Invitational on Sunday (September 29), as redshirt sophomore Rosanna Maffei and junior Ioana Gheorghita would notch wins in singles play to close out the Wildcats' second fall tournament of the season.

In the first victory of the day, Maffei took on Kansas' Carmen Roxana Manu to begin day three at the SMU Tennis Complex. Maffei would cruise to her first victory of the trip with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win.

Gheorghita, who dropped her first set in a matchup with SMU's Claudia Bartolome, would pull out a two-set comeback to claim another win for K-State with scores of 0-6, 7-5, 10-5.

This is the second consecutive tournament Gheorghita has notched two or more victories. Last week, she delivered three victories in route to a third-place finish at the Marliss Gruver Invitational in Auburn, Alabama.

Wrapping up their time at the SMU Tennis Complex, Maffei and Gheorghita would combine for three singles wins and a doubles' victory during the weekend.

The Wildcats will next head to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the ITA All-American Championships beginning on October 5.
