McPherson Picks Up Thorpe Award Player of the Week Accolades

MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the third time this week, Kansas State senior safety Jahron McPherson earned a national honor following his performance last week at No. 3 Oklahoma as he was named the Jim Thorpe Award Player of the Week, the award's organization announced Thursday.
McPherson, who was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, was also named the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week and Nagurski Player of the Week after he totaled 11 tackles – including one for a loss – a forced fumble and an interception as the Wildcats earned their first road win over a top-five ranked team in school history with a 38-35 victory.
A native of Basehor, Kansas, McPherson became the first Wildcat since at least 2002 to post double-digit tackles, a TFL, a forced fumble and an interception in the same game. His forced fumble, which was recovered by the Wildcats, led to a touchdown, while his interception came with 34 seconds remaining to seal the win.
Kansas State hosts Texas Tech on Saturday inside Bill Snyder Family Stadium for the Wildcats' Big 12 home opener. The game, which kicks off at 2:30 p.m., will be shown on FS1.
