K-State Baseball Set for Fall World Series, Shave for the Brave
Oct 06, 2020 | Baseball
MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State baseball is set for its annual Fall World Series at Tointon Family Stadium, which begins Thursday and will culminate in the team's "Shave for the Brave" event on Saturday, head coach Pete Hughes announced.
The three-game intrasquad series gets started Thursday at 3 p.m. with the second game set for 6 p.m. on Friday evening. The series finale is set for Saturday, which begins at 12 p.m. The teams have been drafted into two squads: Team Purple and Team Grey (listed below). Admission is free to all three games, with Tointon Family Stadium being limited to 25 percent capacity (approximately 400).
Following the final game of the Fall World Series, players and staff will participate in "Shave for the Brave," where they will cut their hair in support of children's cancer research and raise funds to benefit Vs. Cancer, the signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.
"This is always a great time of year for us," said Hughes. "Specifically this year to be able to do what's normal in our program. We develop our guys and build our culture in the fall and it culminates every fall with a fantastic fundraiser for a great cause.
"We are making our run for back-to-back-to-back national champs in fundraising for pediatric cancer research. It is just a great way to end the fall with a bunch of good kids in our program that understand and appreciate the big picture. We are looking forward to Saturday and grateful that we can have such a productive fall during these times."
As of Tuesday, players and coaches have combined to raise over $27,000 for the 2020 College Baseball Vs. Cancer campaign. The Wildcats' total is the second-highest amount raised among college baseball programs. K-State has led the nation in fundraising in each of the last two seasons, combining to raise more than $55,000 for the pediatric cancer research over the last two years.
"Shave for the Brave" is a staple event in Hughes' 19 Ways program, which is designed to have a positive impact on the Manhattan community on 19 different occasions during the year. For more on 19 Ways, visit the 19 Ways website here.
With the ongoing construction on College Avenue near Tointon Family Stadium, fans are asked to park in the West Stadium lot near Gate 1 and use the pedestrian signal between Gates 1 and 3 to cross to the west side of College Avenue. Please follow the sidewalk south and cross back over at the signal near the ticket window at Tointon Family Stadium and enter through the main gates.
