Women's Basketball Sweeps Season Series Against Oklahoma
K-State followed Tuesday's impressive comeback in Morgantown with another close road win on Sunday, as the Cats walked out of Norman with an 87-85 overtime win over the Sooners.
Peyton Williams led the way, finishing with a career-high 31 points, including 25 in the second half, to go with 19 rebounds, six assists and a season-high five steals. It was Williams' 12th double this season and the 33rd of her career.
Ayoka Lee (24 points and 13 rebounds) and Christianna Carr (11 points) also reached double figures in the victory.
Williams and Lee's 55 combined points are the fifth-most by two K-State teammates in school history.
The Cats return home to host TCU on Wednesday evening. Tip is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. for the annual Play 4 Kay game.
K-State Track & Field Competes in Iowa State Classic and Tyson Invitational
The K-State track & field program finished with several first-place finishes over the weekend between the Iowa State Classic and the Tyson Invitational in Arkansas.
At the Iowa State Classic, Kimisha Chambers, Shaelyn Ward and Edgaras Benkunskas picked up wins on Friday. Chambers claimed the top spot in the 400 and earned a personal best time in the process. Chambers finished at 53.69, which also moves her to fourth in the K-State record books. Ward also reached a personal best in the weight throw to win the event, finishing with a mark of 65-01.25. Edgaras Benkunskas took first in the long jump, also reaching a personal best with a mark of 23-03.50.
The Cats followed with three more individual victories on Saturday by Cameron Lewis, Ariel Okorie and TJ Shankar.
Lewis earned a personal best throw in the shot put to win the event with a mark of 60-5.75. Okorie took the top spot in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.43, while Shankar earned a victory in the high jump at 7-04.50.
Taishia Pryce earned a top finish in the long jump at the Tyson Invitational. Her jump of 21-10 is currently the top NCAA indoor mark in the event, and Pryce now sits second in the K-State record books.
Wicks Lifts Baseball In Sunday Victory
Jordan Wicks picked up where he left off in 2019, as the sophomore led K-State to their opening win of the 2020 season on Sunday. The Cats defeated UTRGV by the score of 4-0, as Wicks was fantastic on the mound.
Wicks, who was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year a season ago, worked seven strong innings in the victory. He allowed just four hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Dylan Phillips provided the big offensive spark on the day, as the sophomore's homer in the fourth gave K-State a 2-0 advantage. Zach Kokoska drove in the third run with a triple. Kokoska then scored on a single by Cameron Thompson to complete the scoring.
The Cats will look for a series split tonight with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. in Edinburg.
K-State Tennis Faces No. 23 Washington
Washington picked up a 4-1 tennis win over the Cats on Friday afternoon in Manhattan, ending K-State's four-match win streak.
Margot Decker secured her sixth win in a row with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory. The six consecutive wins is a career best for Decker.
The Cats face Iowa and DePaul next weekend in Iowa City.
Outside Shooting Lifts TCU to 68-57 Win Over K-State
TCU connected on 15 makes from the outside in Saturday's men's basketball victory over K-State, dropping the Cats to 9-16 (2-10 Big 12).
K-State held a slim 27-26 lead at the half, but the Horned Frogs hit nine threes and shot over 50 percent from deep in the final 20 minutes to secure the win.
Desmond Bane led three TCU players in double figures with 17 points. Jaire Grayer and RJ Nembhard each added 15.
Xavier Sneed had a team-best 15 for K-State on 6-of-12 shooting. David Sloan added 11, while Cartier Diarra also reached double figures with 10.
The Cats travel to Texas Tech on Wednesday (8 p.m.) before hosting Texas on the 22nd at 1 p.m.
